“Wait,” I said slowly, looking between Riley and Lumina with growing confusion as I was trying to put it together. Was there another

Riley that was her son or I had skipped a huge chapter of their lives.

‘I thought Riley was… I mean, when you told me about why you left the city, you mentioned that Sophia’s son was being used against

you. But he’s here, and he’s calling you his mother?”

Lumina’s expression grew even more serious, and she exchanged a meaningful look with Xenois who nodded his head as she turned to

face me once more before answering.

“It turns out the situation was much more complicated than any of us realized in the first place. Yes Riley is that same Riley I told

you that was Sophia’s son but the real truth is Riley is my son, Lyn. My biological son. Sophia stole him from me when he was born, and

we only just discovered the truth.”

The revelation hit me like a sledgehammer as I felt my breath caught in my throat as my eyes widened in surprise hearing those

words from her mouth. Twins. Lumina had given birth to twins, and one of them had been taken from her without her knowledge.

The magical implications alone were huge to think about – the kind of memory modification that had been carried out for months to

deceive Lumina all along that it was only one child and then the record alteration required for such a deception would have taken

enormous skill and power, whoever stole Riley was no ordinary witch at all.

“That’s…” I started to say, then stopped, overwhelmed by the magnitude of what they’d been through as I shook my head unable to

compare it to anything else.

‘I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine what that must have been like for all of you.”

“It’s over now, Xenois said firmly, moving to stand behind his family with a protective stance.

‘Riley’s home where he belongs, Ollie is healthy, and Sophia can never hurt any of us again.”

There was something in his tone, a finality that suggested Sophia’s threat had been permanently eliminated and won’t be a problem

again in the future, that made me swallow hard.

I didn’t ask for details – some questions were better left unasked, especially when they involved powerful werewolf families and their

methods of dealing with enemies. Werewolves were predators after all, there was something bloodthirsty in the hunt.

‘I’m glad,’ I said simply, meaning it completely as I smiled at Lumina. “You all deserve to be together and happy.”

A tall, broad-shouldered man I recognized from earlier visits stepped forward, extending his hand to me with a respectful nod.

“I’m Thorne,” he said. “Xenois’s second-in-command. I wanted to thank you personally for what you did to save the boys. That was

incredibly brave.”

I shook his hand, remembering how he’d brought clothes for Ollie during those first difficult days when they’d arrived at the pack which Ollie early shift that had been more than what he could handle and the full hatred he had for Zade back then.

“Just doing what needed to be done,” I replied. “Any decent person would have done the same thing.”

“Not everyone would have been willing to risk their life the way you did,” Thorne countered, shaking his head deflecting the way that

I tried to downplay it.

“You nearly died breaking that curse. That kind of sacrifice… it means something.”

Before I could respond to his praise, Ollie was tugging on my shirt to get my attention.

“Lyn, you should know that I never let Alpha Zade stay alone with Mom, I knew from the start that you liked him and he was ignoring you” he announced with the seriousness of someone much older than his years. “I was protecting her for Dad while he was away and I was also subtly telling him to look at you instead. I was fighting on his and your behalf.”

The declaration made both Lumina and Xenois smile, and I couldn’t help but turn bright red as I realized that Ollie must have been a great observer than I expected and I was also charmed by the boy’s fierce loyalty to his family.

“That’s very noble of you, Ollie,” I said solemnly. “Your dad is lucky to have such a dedicated defender And thank you for looking out for me as well. Most people really thought he and Lynn love each other.”
