Chapter 210
LUMINA

I watched as Lyn carefully examined the small vial Riley had given him, scanning it as he opened it and took a sniff before closing it back as he narrowed his eyes in surprise, worry and concern at the same time.
My hands were still shaking as I tried to process everything my son had just revealed to us, probably thinking it was normal.
The clear liquid looked innocent enough, like it was just plain water if someone had no prior knowledge of it, but knowing it was an
antidote to torture magic made my stomach churn with revulsion.
“This is incredibly sophisticated,” Lyn murmured, holding the vial up to the light, a part of him curious and eager to learn more
although he tamed it down because it wasn’t the right time.
“The magical signature is complex – whoever created this knew exactly how the curse functions and designed this specifically to
counteract it.”
He moved to Zade’s bedside and carefully lifted the Alpha’s head, helping him drink the entire contents of the vial, making sure that
Zade doesn’t spill a drop. My heart was pounding fast because a part of me hoped that Riley was right about this and hadn’t just grabbed
a vial by accident.
Within minutes, I could see some of the color returning to Zade’s pale face, and the dark curse marks on his chest seemed to stop
their relentless spreading as it stopped but didn’t disappear completely.
“How do you feel?” Lyn asked, checking Zade’s pulse with gentle fingers, trying to check on his breathing if it was still laboured.
‘Better,” Zade replied, his voice still weak but more coherent than it had been since Lynn had brought him home.
“The pain is… not gone completely but manageable now. Like it’s been put on pause.”
Relief flooded through me, but it was short-lived as I remembered Riley’s warning that the antidote was only temporary. One week. We had one week to figure out how to break this curse permanently, or Zade would be right back where he started.
But even that small reprieve felt like a miracle after watching him writhe in agony for hours.
The sound of splintering wood made me jump as Xenols’s fist connected with the bedside table, sending it crashing into the wall with enough force to leave a dent in the plaster. I immediately looked toward Riley, who had dove back under the bed at the sudden noise, his small body trembling with terror.
“Please don’t hit me!” Riley cried out, his voice muffled by the bedframe again, still not used to sudden sounds or loud noises when he didn’t anticipate them coming.
“I didn’t do anything wrong! I was trying to help!”

The sight of my son cowering in fear because of his own father’s anger made something twist painfully in my chest.
I knelt beside the bed, speaking in the softest voice I could manage.

“Riley, sweetheart, nobody is going to hurt you,” I said, my voice breaking slightly as I tried to regain control of my emotions. I wasn’t
going to let my son see me break down in front of him.
“Daddy isn’t angry at you. He’s angry at the people who hurt you. You’re safe now, I promise.”
It took several minutes of gentle coaxing before Riley would come out from under the bed, and even then he stayed pressed close to
Ollie, who wrapped his arms around his twin in a protective gesture that nearly broke my heart.
“Let me get one of the maids to take the boys for dinner and baths,” Lynn said quietly, clearly recognizing that we needed to have an
adult conversation about what Riley had revealed to us.
“They don’t need to hear this discussion.”
She slipped out of the room, returning moments later with Maria, one of the house staff who had been particularly gentle with Ollie
during our stay from home.
“Boys,” Maria said warmly squatting down to the boys level taking in stride that there was another kid who looked similar to Ollie in
stride, “how would you like some hot chocolate and cookies in the kitchen? We could even watch a movie afterward if you’d like.”
Ollie looked between Riley and the adults, clearly sensing the tension in the room as he narrowed his eyes, ever the observant person.
“Are you going to talk about grown-up things?” he asked with the intuitive wisdom children sometimes possessed.
“Yes,” I admitted honestly, knowing that denying it would make Ollie think that we assumed he was stupid. “We need to figure out how to help Alpha Zade get completely better, and that requires some complicated discussions that can’t be spoken in public.”
‘Can Riley help?” Ollie asked seriously looking at Riley and back at me. “He knows about the bad magic.”
The fact that my five-year-old had to know about “bad magic” at all made me want to scream with rage at the people who had done these horrible things to him, but I forced my voice to stay calm. “Riley has already helped more than he knows,” I assured him. “Now it’s
time for the grown-ups to take over.”
After the boys left with Maria, the room fell into heavy silence as nobody looked ready to break the silence, all of them processing this information and dealing with it the way they could. I looked around at the faces of the people who had become so important to me – Xenois, whose fury was barely contained beneath his calm exterior;
Lyn, who was still examining the empty vial with troubled eyes; Lynn, whose medical training and her experiences with dark witches even before she became Zade’s Luna made her understand exactly how sophisticated the torture had been; and Thorne, whose protective instincts toward our family had him radiating barely controlled violence as he kept gritting his teeth and pacing near the small window
trying to remain calm.

“I’m going to kill her,” Xenois said quietly, his voice deadly calm in a way that was somehow more terrifying than his earlier outburst.
“I’m going to find this Andy woman and make her suffer for every single thing she did to our son.”
“Get in line, Thorne growled, his hands clenched into fists. “That child has been tortured repeatedly without stop for years. Tortured
by someone who was supposed to protect him. The things she did to him…”
He couldn’t finish the sentence, shaking his head in disgust and rage.
