Chapter 240
XENOIS
“That’s exactly what I’m asking,” Marcus replied without hesitation. “I need your help getting these werewolves into Shadow City
undetected.”
All three vampires took an immediate step backward, their friendly demeanor evaporating.
“Are you out of your mind?” XY demanded. “Werewolves are our natural enemies, Marcus. And Shadow City? That’s where you and
Andy had your falling out. You’re asking us to help you commit suicide.”
“I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t urgent,” Marcus said firmly. “These people saved my life, and now they need my help to stop Andy from
hurting their family.”

Kashton, who had been quiet until now, finally spoke up. “And what happens to us after we help you get them into the city? Do these wolves dispose of us like trash once we’ve served our purpose? Werewolves aren’t exactly known for their gratitude toward vampires.”
I stepped forward, letting my Alpha authority color my voice without making it threatening. “You have my word that you’ll be under pack immunity. No harm will come to you from me or my family, and I’ll ensure safe passage out of Silver Creek City for all of you.”
“Why do we even need them to get in?” my mother asked, clearly not understanding why they were being summoned especially once they had no idea what was at stake, neither did they have anything that they were fighting for.
⚫XY looked at her like she’d asked why water was wet. “Shadow City is over ten thousand miles from here, it was made that way to piss of werewolves and stop them for even attempting to visit it, all other creatures have their own ways of getting in. Besides We can cover that distance in about ten seconds and get your people past the magical barriers that is surrounding the city. We can make you invisible and unnoticed by anyone unless we want them to know you’re there.”
‘So driving isn’t an option,” Dad concluded.
“Not unless you want to spend two days on the road and arrive to find Andy’s already moved her entire operation somewhere else,” Kyle said sarcastically. “She has precognitive abilities, remember? She’ll see you coming long before you arrive if you take the usual means
of transportation.”
The implications hit me immediately. A ten-thousand-mile journey by car or plane would take days, giving Andy plenty of time to prepare defenses or escape entirely from the face of the end,. But with vampire speed, we could be there and back before she even
realized we’d left.
“Now I understand why Marcus called you,” I said, nodding with newfound respect for them despite the feud going between our kinds for almost centuries. “This kind of speed and stealth is exactly what we need.”
XY’s expression remained skeptical as he did not look all invested in this case. “Is this really a good idea, Marcus? We can not afford to get on Andy’s bad side. If we does and she retailates against us by cutting off our supply, we will be in deep trouble. And nowhere else

provides our kind with the blood we need to survive. Are we betraying our own people by helping you?”

“Marcus, Kyle said seriously, “if people find out we helped werewolves target our benefactor Andy, the entire supernatural population of Shadow City will turn against us. Andy isn’t just some random witch – she provides blood supplies, protection, sanctuary for hundreds of vampires and other supernaturals. She’s the reason most of us can survive in the modern world.”
The weight of what Kyle was saying hit me hard. We weren’t just asking these vampires to help us infiltrate enemy territory – we were asking them to betray someone who was essential to their survival. And I could see why they were hesitant, to help us, their natural
enemies kill someone who has done nothing wrong in their eyes.
“You know that we are not allowed in hospitals, anymore and nobody is exactly lining up to offer us blood, unless it is some kind of trap, to take us captive and throw in an underground cell and be treated as specimens for their entertainment? I do not see any upsides
to this at all, Marcus.”
Marcus held up a hand to calm his friends. “I’ll make sure all half-bloods are kept separate from any direct assault. You won’t be implicated in Andy’s downfall, and I’ll ensure your blood supply isn’t interrupted. I have my own connections that can fill the gap if
necessary.”
The three vampires exchanged uncertain glances, clearly torn between loyalty to their friend and their own survival instincts.
“This is insane, Marcus, Kyle said finally. “You’re asking us to risk everything – our safety, our food supply, our entire community – to help a pack of werewolves who would probably kill us without a second thought under normal circumstances.”
“These aren’t normal circumstances, Marcus replied. “Andy has stepped over lines that shouldn’t be crossed. She’s targeting children, manipulating and abusing them for her own ends. Some things are more important than our old prejudices.”
I found myself respecting Marcus more in that moment than I had since meeting him. Despite his earlier reluctance to get involved, he was now willing to risk everything to do what was right.
“We need to make a decision quickly,” Carol interjected. “Every minute we waste gives Andy more time to prepare for whatever she’s
planning next.”
The vampires huddled together for a brief, whispered conversation that even my enhanced hearing couldn’t pick up. Finally, they broke apart and Kyle stepped forward as their apparent spokesperson.
“We’ll do it,” he said reluctantly. “But we want guarantees. Written guarantees about our protection, about maintaining our blood supply, about immunity from pack justice. And if this goes sideways, if Andy captures us or if your pack turns on us, we want assurances that Marcus will personally handle the fallout.”
“Done,” I said immediately. “Whatever you need, we’ll provide it.”
Kyle nodded grimly. “Then let’s get this suicide mission started. But for the record, I think we’re all going to die horribly, and our deaths are going to spark a war between vampires and werewolves that will make the old conflicts look like playground disputes.”
“Noted,” I replied. “Now let’s go save my family.”
