Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 246

Chapter 246

LUMINA

The expression on Zade’s face told me everything I needed to know, even before he spoke. The hope I’d been clinging to crumbled

into dust.

“We haven’t found him yet,” he said quietly, his voice barely audible as he kept speaking, holding onto me tight like he was scared, I

would vanish too.

“When we arrived, there were signs of a struggle throughout the building, but no trace of him, anywhere, he doesn’t seem to be in the

vicinity at all, as we can’t track him down by scent. We’re still searching.”

Lynn stepped forward, her face pale with worry. As Lyn’s twin, the two had always shared a special bond, and I could see the anguish

in her eyes.

“His scent trail goes cold near the emergency stairwell,” Lynn said, her voice tight with controlled emotion, as she maintained a composed face, as in the presence of outsiders, who saw her as their Luna.

“There are signs that something was dragged, but we can’t tell if it was him or someone else. And with all the other scents in the building – blood, fear, whatever those creatures were – it’s impossible to track properly.”

I felt my legs give out, and would have fallen if not for Zade’s supporting arms.

Lyn was missing. My boys were missing. Everything I cared about had been torn away from me in the span of what couldn’t have been

more than an hour.

“This has to be connected to Andy,” I said, my voice hollow with despair.

“The timing is too convenient to be a coincidence. But why take Lyn? What could she possibly want with him?”

“His healing abilities,” Lynn said grimly. “Lyn never learned to fight like the rest of us. His werewolf genes are almost dormant – he can’t shift, can’t defend himself the way we can. But his healing powers are stronger than anyone else’s in the pack. If someone needed a

healer they could control…”

The implication hung in the air like a toxic cloud. Andy hadn’t just taken Lyn as collateral or to hurt us – she’d taken him because he was useful to her. Which meant she planned to keep him alive, at least for now.

“And the boys,” I whispered, thinking about what Dr. Sloane had told me.

“Riley saw something that made him desperate enough to jump off a balcony. He was protecting Ollie from something.”

“We need to shut down the entire city,” Zade said, his Alpha authority bleeding into his voice as he addressed the guards. “Issue an Amber Alert for all three of them. No one goes in or out without being searched. And get me a direct line to Xenois – he needs to know

his mate is hurt and sons are missing.”

As the guards scattered to carry out his orders, I sank into one of the few remaining intact chairs. The magnitude of what had

happened was starting to sink in, and I felt like I was drowning in helplessness.

“There has to be an explanation,” I said, more to myself than to anyone else. “Some clue about where they went or who took them.”

“We questioned the few attackers we managed to capture,” Zade said, kneeling beside my chair. “But they seemed more interested in

escaping than fighting us. None of them were found with Lyn or the boys, and most claimed they didn’t even know about any kidnapping.

They were just hired to create chaos.”

“A distraction,” I realized, my mind beginning to work through the implications of what this meant now.

“The attack on the hospital was meant to cover something else.

While we were fighting off nightwalkers and whoever else they sent, the real operation was happening elsewhere.”

But that didn’t explain Riley’s behavior. If he’d simply been taken during the chaos, there would have been signs of a struggle in Dr.

Sloane’s office.

Instead, he’d made a conscious decision to grab Ollie and escape through the window.

“He knew,” I said suddenly, the pieces clicking into place. “Somehow, Riley knew they were coming. That’s why he was so agitated, why he kept watching the parking lot. He saw something – or someone – that made him realize we were all in danger.”

“But why didn’t he tell Dr. Sloane?” Lynn asked. “Why take such a desperate action instead of asking for help?”

I thought about everything I’d learned about Riley’s past, about the conditioning and trauma that had shaped his young mind. “Because he’s been taught that adults don’t listen to children about dangerous things. Because his survival instincts told him that running was the only option that might keep Ollie safe.”

The radio crackled as reports started coming in from the search teams. No sign of the boys in the immediate vicinity of the hospital. No witnesses who had seen them after the awning was torn. It was as if they’d simply vanished into thin air.

I closed my eyes, trying to push through the fear and think logically. Riley was smart, resourceful, and had been trained in survival techniques that most children never learned. If anyone could keep himself and Ollie alive in a dangerous situation, it was him.

But he was still just a child, and Ollie was even younger. How long could they survive on their own, especially with professional

killers hunting them?

“We’ll find them,” Zade said firmly, reading the despair in my expression. He looked more focused on taking care of me, rather than express the emotion that he might not see Lyn again and I didn’t know what to do.

“All three of them. I promise you that. And if Andy is behind this, she is going to regret infiltrating my city, I won’t rest until her soul

is languishing in hell,”

I wanted to believe him. I needed to believe him. But as the reports continued to come in with no new information, I couldn’t shake

the feeling that Andy had planned this perfectly, and we were already several steps behind in a game where the stakes were the lives of

everyone I loved most.

The war for my family had begun, and I was already losing.
