Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 251

Chapter 251

The moment I saw Ollie through the chaos of emergency vehicles and tactical teams, something inside my chest loosened for the first time since we’d received word of the hospital attack. He looked so small standing there beside Officer Martinez, clutching that walkie- talkie like a lifeline, his clothes torn and dirty, his face streaked with tears and what looked like dried blood.

into.

But he was alive. He was standing on his own two feet, and that had to count for something in this nightmare we’d all been thrust

Lumina reached him first, dropping to her knees and pulling him into her arms with a desperation that spoke to every parent’s worst fear. Ollie collapsed against her, his small body shaking with sobs as he buried his face in her shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Mama,” he cried, his words muffled but clear enough to break my heart. “I tried to stay with Riley, but he knocked me out, and when I woke up he was gone and there was so much blood…”

*Shh, baby, Lumina whispered, her own tears flowing freely as she held him tight. “You did nothing wrong. You’re safe now. We’re

going to find Riley, I promise.”

I knelt beside them, placing a gentle hand on Ollie’s back. The boy looked up at me with eyes that held far too much trauma for someone his age. In the span of a few hours, he’d gone from being a sheltered child to someone who’d witnessed violence and death

firsthand.

. “You were very brave, Ollie, I told him, keeping my voice calm and steady despite the rage burning in my chest. Someone had terrorized these children, had put them in mortal danger, and I was going to make sure they paid for it. “Riley would be proud of how

strong you were.”

The ride back to the secured safe house was tense and quiet. Ollie sat pressed against Lumina’s side, occasionally breaking into fresh sobs as he tried to explain what had happened. The fragments of story he managed to get out painted a picture that made my blood run cold-professional killers hunting children through a building, Riley making impossible choices to keep his little brother safe, and blood

trails that led into darkness.

Lynn was waiting for us when we arrived, her medical bag already open and ready. As Lyn’s twin, she shared his healing abilities to some degree, though not nearly as powerfully. Still, she was the best we had for making sure Ollie hadn’t suffered any injuries we couldn’t

see.

‘Let me take a look at you, sweetheart,” Lynn said gently, guiding Ollie to sit on the couch. Her hands moved with practiced efficiency, checking his pupils, feeling for signs of concussion, examining the scrapes and bruises that covered his arms and legs.

While she worked, I coordinated with my teams through secure channels. The entire city was on lockdown, but so far we had no concrete leads on Riley’s whereabouts. The blood trail Ollie had mentioned led to a dead end in an alley where it simply stopped, as if whoever had been bleeding had been picked up by a vehicle.

“He seems physically fine,” Lynn announced after her examination. “Some minor cuts and bruises, probably from the fall from the balcony. The head injury appears to be superficial – no signs of serious concussion. He’s going to be sore for a few days, but there’s no

lasting damage.”

“What about the emotional trauma?” Lumina asked quietly, her hand still resting protectively on Ollie’s head.

Lynn’s expression grew grave. “That’s going to take time to heal. He’s been through something no child should ever experience. We’ll need to be very careful about how we handle this going forward.”

That’s when Officer Martinez contacted me through the secure line. “Alpha, we’ve recovered the security camera from outside Dr. Sloane’s office. The footage survived the attack. We can have it streamed to your location in five minutes.”

“Do it,” I ordered, though part of me dreaded what we might see.

The footage began playing on the large TV screen in the safe house’s main room. At first, it showed nothing but the peaceful hospital courtyard, patients and staff moving about their normal routines. Then the timestamp jumped to the moment when everything went

wrong.

We watched Riley and Ollie sitting on Dr. Sloane’s balcony, the therapy session apparently going normally. But even through the grainy security camera, I could see the tension in Riley’s posture, the way he kept scanning the parking lot below like he was expecting

trouble.

“He knew,” Lumina whispered, her voice filled with a mixture of pride and horror. “Somehow, he knew they were coming.”

The footage showed the moment when the lights went out in the building. Emergency lighting kicked in, casting everything in that eerie red glow we’d all become familiar with. That’s when Riley’s demeanor changed completely.

What happened next made me understand exactly what kind of training this boy had received, and it both impressed and disturbed

me deeply.

Riley moved with the precision of someone much older and more experienced. He grabbed Ollie, positioned him for the jump from the balcony, and executed their escape with a level of tactical awareness that belonged in a military operation, not in the mind of a

traumatized child.

“Jesus,” I muttered, watching Riley calculate angles and timing like a seasoned soldier. “How old is he again?”

“Five,” Lumina said, her voice hollow. “He’s five years old, and he’s moving like he’s done this a hundred times before.”

Lynn leaned forward, studying the footage intently. “This is what we suspected about Andy and Sophia’s operation, but seeing it… Riley isn’t just a victim of abuse. He’s been trained as a child soldier. This kind of tactical thinking doesn’t happen overnight.”

We watched Riley drag Ollie through the parking lot, using parked cars as cover, constantly assessing threats and escape routes. Every movement was calculated, purposeful. Even injured and terrified, he was thinking three steps ahead.
