Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 259

Chapter 259

XENOIS

The familiar sight of Zade’s compound gates should have brought some measure of relief to me and loosen up some dread settled up

in my stomach but all I felt was a hollow ache in my chest as our convoy of three SUVs pulled up to the security checkpoint, before we

were cleared to drive in.

I could see the security details, all over the place, tightened as construction and cleaning took place, reminding me of the mini war

that had taken Alpha Zade and my family by surprise but thankfully they were able to contain.

Through the windshield, I could see them waiting for us – Lumina standing with Ollie clutched tightly in her arms, her face pale but

determined, waiting for my return.

Zade was standing beside her, his Alpha presence radiating tension even from a distance.

Lynn stood close to Zade, her medical bag visible at her side, as she looked ready to tend to any injuries we might have sustained.

Thorn, my best friend and second-in-command maintained his usual stoic expression, when in public with people he was not close with but I could see the worry lines around his eyes.

Rivers- Zade’s second- stood at Zade’s other shoulder – the kind of backup every Alpha needed when facing impossible situations.

The moment our SUV came to a complete stop, I was out of the driver’s seat and crossing the distance to my family. Lumina met me halfway, and I gathered both her and Ollie into my arms, breathing in their scents to convince myself they were really safe and whole.

“You’re okay,” I murmured against Lumina’s hair, feeling some of the crushing weight in my chest ease slightly. “You’re both okay.”

“We’re fine, Lumina assured me, though I could hear the tremor in her voice that spoke to everything she’d been through. “Physically,

anyway.”

Ollie pulled back to look at me with eyes too serious for a child his age.

‘Daddy, you have to bring Riley home. He saved me, and now he’s gone, and it’s all my fault because I couldn’t help him fight the bad

man.”

The raw pain in my son’s voice nearly brought me to my knees.

“Ollie, I need you to listen to me very carefully. Nothing that happened to Riley is your fault. Do you understand me? Riley made choices to protect you because he loves you, and that makes him a hero. What happened after that was because of bad people doing bad things, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.”

“But I should have helped him,” Ollie insisted, tears streaming down his face. “I should have been stronger, like him.”

*You were brave enough, buddy,” I told him firmly. “Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is survive so that the people who love you don’t lose you too. Riley needs you to be safe so he has something good to come home to.”

Behind me, I heard car doors slamming as the other members of our group emerged from their vehicles. From the second SUV came Kyle, XY, and Kashton – the half-bloods Marcus had insisted we bring despite my initial reservations. The werewolves in Zade’s pack were already showing signs of tension at their presence, but we needed every advantage we could get.

The third SUV disgorged its passengers, and I felt Lumina stiffen in my arms as my parents, Samuel and Silvia Blackwood, stepped out alongside Shawn, the werewolf teenager we’d rescued from Andy’s operation in Shadow City.

My mother moved with purpose toward us, her maternal instincts overriding any protocol or pack politics. But before she could reach Ollie, Lumina’s voice cut through the air like a blade.

“What are they doing here?”

The question was directed at me, but her eyes were locked on my parents with unmistakable hostility. I could understand her reaction – my parents’ interference in our marriage had nearly cost us everything, and their presence now felt like salt in fresh wounds.

“Lumina,” my mother began, her voice gentler than I’d heard it in years, “I came here to help rescue my grandson. Both of my

grandsons.”

“Your grandson?” Lumina’s voice rose dangerously. “You mean the same grandson you tried to prevent from being with me when you

found my replacement in Sophia?”

The tension in the air became thick enough to cut. I could see Zade and his people assessing the situation, ready to intervene if this family drama threatened to derail our rescue mission. Thorn’s hand moved subtly toward his weapon, while Rivers positioned himself to

block any aggressive moves.

My father placed a restraining hand on my mother’s shoulder, his expression carefully neutral. “We’re just here to help, Lumina. I know we’ve made mistakes in the past, but right now all that matters is bringing Riley and Lyn home safely.”

“Samuel’s right,” I said, though the words tasted bitter. “Whatever issues we have with each other, they can wait until after we’ve dealt

with Andy.”

Carol emerged from the first SUV and immediately crossed to Lumina, pulling her into a fierce hug that spoke to years of friendship and shared struggles. “I’m so sorry this happened,” Carol murmured. “We’re going to get them back.”

“Carol, I am so happy you are here after everything you did for my sons,” she said, wrapping her hands around her.

“Lumina, I may be termed illegal for existing in this life as a witch, but our friendship is stronger than any threat thrown my way.Besides I want you to finally meet my mate, you remember him from college, although he was under disguise as a human then, meet Marcus- Carol added, gesturing toward the tall, dark-haired man who’d approached more cautiously. “He’s… well, he’s part of why we have a chance of succeeding in this rescue.”

Marcus nodded respectfully toward Lumina. “I’m sorry we’re meeting under these circumstances again considering our past history.

But I want you to know that everyone here is committed to bringing your boys home.”

I could see the werewolves in Zade’s pack taking note of Marcus and the other half-bloods, their postures subtly shifting into defensive positions. The prejudice against mixed-blood supernatural beings ran deep in most pure werewolf communities, and this was neither the time nor place for those tensions to explode. I know some of you have reservations about working with half-bloods,” I addressed the group directly, letting my Alpha authority color my voice. “But these people have sacrificed just as much as any of us to stop Andy’s operation. They’ve earned the right to be here.”
