Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 334

Chapter 334

XENOIS

The pack house’s main conference room felt smaller than usual with nearly thirty werewolves crammed inside, their combined anxiety making the air thick and difficult to breathe. I stood at the head of the long table, Lumina beside me, trying to project an alpha’s

confidence while my wolf paced restlessly beneath my skin.

Marcus, my beta, sat to my right, his expression grave. Margo had positioned herself near the door, her usual diplomatic smile replaced with tactical alertness. The rest of the council filled the remaining seats-pack elders, military leaders, our head of security, and

several representatives from different pack sectors.

“Thank you all for coming on such short notice,” I began, my voice carrying the authority of my position even though my stomach churned with apprehension. “We have a situation that requires immediate attention and full pack mobilization.”

“This is about the boys you brought back,” Elder Harriet said, not bothering to phrase it as a question. She was one of our oldest pack members, a woman who’d seen three alphas come and go and never hesitated to speak her mind. “We’ve all heard the rumors. Enhanced children, experimental facilities, dangerous enemies. So which rumor is true?”

“All of them,” I admitted, deciding that honesty was the only option. “And it’s worse than the rumors suggest.”

I spent the next twenty minutes outlining everything-Riley and Lake’s rescue, the facility we’d destroyed, Andy’s death, and the organization that might still be operating in her absence. The room grew progressively quieter as I spoke, faces shifting from curious to

concerned to openly frightened.

“And now,” I continued, forcing myself to meet each person’s eyes, “we have confirmation that a nightwalker was spotted in Silver Creek yesterday. Following my mate and children through a public store.”

The silence that followed was absolute. Even the usual background noises of the pack house-distant conversations, footsteps, the hum of electronics-seemed to have stopped, leaving only the collective held breath of thirty terrified werewolves.

“A nightwalker,” Marcus repeated slowly. “Here. In our territory,”

“Lake identified it based on Lumina’s description,” I confirmed.

“He has firsthand experience with these creatures from his time in captivity. According to him, nightwalkers were used as scouts and spies by Andy’s organization. Where there’s one scout, there will eventually be a strike team.”

“How long do we have?” asked James, our head of security. He was already pulling out his tablet, presumably to start drafting defense

protocols.

“Lake estimates two weeks,” I said.

“Maybe less if they decide to move quickly, maybe more if they’re being cautious. But we need to assume worst-case scenario and

prepare for an attack within days.”

“We should exile the boys,” Elder Harriet said bluntly, and I felt my wolf surge forward with a snarl that I barely managed to suppress.

“Send them away, somewhere far from Silver Creek. If they’re not here, there’s no reason for these creatures to attack us.”

“They’re children,” Lumina said, her voice sharp enough to cut.

“Five-year-old children who’ve already endured more trauma than most adults face in a lifetime. We’re not exiling them.”

“With all due respect, Luna,” Elder Harriet continued, unmoved by Lumina’s anger, “we have to consider the safety of the entire pack. If these enemies are as dangerous as the Alpha suggests, we could be risking hundreds of lives to protect two.”

“Three,” I corrected coldly. “Riley, Lake, and Ollie. Because I guarantee that any strike team won’t distinguish between which twin is

which, and I will not separate my children or put any of them at risk.”

“Then you’re asking us to go to war for three children,” another elder, Thomas, interjected. “Children who aren’t even fully part of this pack. The boys just got here. Most pack members haven’t even met them yet.”

“They’re part of this pack because I say they are,” I said, letting alpha command bleed into my voice.

“Riley is my blood. Lake is under my protection. Both are pack members with all the rights and protections that entails. Anyone who has a problem with that can challenge me for alpha right now.”

The room went silent again. No one was stupid enough to challenge an alpha in his prime, especially not over something that would

make them look like they were targeting children.

But I could see the calculation in their eyes. The weighing of risks and benefits. The fear that I was making decisions based on

emotion rather than strategy.

“I understand your concerns,” I said, softening my tone slightly. “I know this isn’t what any of you signed up for when you joined Silver Creek. But this is the reality we’re facing. We have a threat incoming, and we can either prepare to meet it or we can fragment as a

pack and make ourselves even more vulnerable.”

“What do you propose?” Margo asked, her calm voice cutting through the tension. “Specifically. What’s the plan?”

I nodded to her gratefully and pulled up the tactical map I’d prepared on my tablet, projecting it onto the conference room’s main screen. “First, we increase security on all pack borders. Triple patrols, staggered shifts, no one goes out alone. I want eyes on every access point to Silver Creek twenty-four seven.”

James was already taking notes, nodding along with my instructions.

“Second,” I continued, “we need to establish safe rooms within the pack house and at key locations throughout the territory. Reinforced spaces with multiple exits, supplied with food, water, communications equipment, and weapons. If an attack happens, we need

secure locations where vulnerable pack members can shelter.”

“Third, we need to train everyone on nightwalker identification and combat. Lake and Riley have agreed to help with this-they have

practical experience fighting enhanced individuals that none of us possess. I know they’re young, but they’re the experts we have access

to.”

“You want five-year-olds teaching our warriors how to fight?” Elder Thomas asked incredulously.

“I want survivors of this particular enemy teaching our warriors what they’re up against,” I corrected.

“Age is irrelevant when it comes to expertise. Lake and Riley know these creatures, know their tactics, know their weaknesses. We’d be

fools not to utilize that knowledge.”

Marcus cleared his throat. “What about the nightwalker itself? The one that was spotted yesterday. Do we know if it’s still in the

area?”

“We have to assume it is,” I said.

“Nightwalkers can make themselves essentially invisible in human form, and in shadow form they’re nearly impossible to detect. It

could be in this room right now and we wouldn’t know.”

That statement caused an immediate reaction-pack members glancing around nervously, some actually standing and checking behind furniture like the nightwalker might be hiding under a chair.

“However,” I continued quickly,

“Lake has provided information on detection methods. Temperature drops, shadow irregularities, that sort of thing. We’re working on developing more concrete detection protocols and possibly some magical countermeasures.”

“Magical?” Margo perked up at that. “You found someone with light magic capabilities?”
