Chapter 444

LUMINA

The shout echoed in the small room. We both immediately looked at the door, listening for sounds of anyone approaching or questioning

what they’d just heard.

Silence.

Lyn crept to the door, opened it a crack, and peered out into the hallway. Apparently satisfied that no one had overheard, he closed and

locked it again before turning back to me.

“I’m not sure,” he said more quietly. “I’m not one hundred percent certain. But when I was healing myself after the fight yesterday, something felt different. Off. Like there was something else there that shouldn’t be there. Or should be there but I didn’t expect it. And I didn’t want to tell Lynn because she would immediately drag me to a proper medical facility and run tests and then she’d drag me to Zade and I’m

not ready for that conversation yet.”

I sat back down on the bed because my legs didn’t feel entirely stable Okay. Let me process this. You think you might be pregnant. Which implies that male werewitches can get pregnant. Which is not information had previously. And you’re scared to tell your mate because… why

exactly?

“Because it’s complicated!” Lyn said, resuming his pacing. “Male werewitch pregnancy is extremely rare. Most werewitches go their entire lives never knowing it’s possible. And there’s a reason for that-it’s information we keep secret. Hidden. Because if werewolf packs knew that male werewitches could carry children, it would change how they view us:aybe make us seem more valuable. Or more threatening. Or more like property to be controlled.”

“Does Zade know this is possible?” I asked.

“No,” Lyn said immediately. “I never told him. Because why would I? The chances of it happening are infinitesimally small. Most male werewitches are infertile by default. Only the most powerful ones, under very specific circumstances, with compatible mates, during particular times of year when magic is strongest- He made a frustrated gesture. There are so many variables that have to align perfectly that it’s

basically theoretical for most people.”

“But you’re one of the most powerful werewitches in the region,” I said slowly, understanding dawning. “And Zade is your true mate, which is about as compatible as it gets. And you’ve been together for years now, fully bonded, completely committed.”

“And we had sex during the autumn equinox, Lyn added miserably. “Which is one of those specific times when werewitch magic is strongest. I knew it was theoretically possible. But the odds were so low that I didn’t think… I never thought it would actually happen.”

I let that sink in. Lyn-brilliant, competent, powerful Lyn-was potentially pregnant with his male mate’s child through magical biology I

didn’t fully understand.

And he was terrified.

“Does it work the same way as female pregnancy?” I asked, trying to focus on practical questions. “Same gestation period, same physical

changes?”

“I don’t know,” Lyn admitted. “There’s almost no documentation because it’s so rare and so secret. What little information exists is passed down through werewitch families verbally, never written down. Lynn might know more-she’s studied werewitch biology more extensively than I have. But asking her means confirming my suspicion, and once it’s confirmed, I can’t take it back.”

“What are you afraid of?” I asked gently. “What’s the worst-case scenario you’re imagining?”

Lyn finally stopped pacing and sank onto the bed beside me, his head in his hands.

“That Zade won’t want this, he said quietly. “That he’ll see me differently. That the pack will reject a child born from two males as unnatural or wrong. That other supernatural groups will view it as an abomination. That I’ll be putting a target on my child before theyre even

born.”

“Or,” I countered carefully, “Zade will be thrilled. The pack will adapt because Zade is alpha and what he accepts, they accept. Other supernatural groups can mind their own business. And your child will be loved and protected by one of the most powerful families in the

region.”

“You don’t know that,” Lyn said.

“You don’t know the alternative,” I pointed out. “You’re catastrophizing based on fear instead of facts. Which is completely understandable -I did the same thing when I found out I was pregnant with the twins. I was convinced Xenois would reject me, that the pack would see my

children as threats, that I’d be raising them alone. None of that happened

“Your situation was different,” Lyn protested. “You’re female. Female pregnancy is understood, accepted, expected. Male pregnancy is…

unprecedented.”

“In werewolf packs, maybe,” I said. “But Lyn, you’re not just werewolf you’re werewitch. Your magic, your biology, your very existence

operates by different rules. Why would pregnancy be any different?”

He looked at me with desperate hope mixed with lingering fear. “Do you really think Zade will be okay with this?”
