Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 475

Chapter 475

I tackled her just as the lock disengaged.

We went down in a tangle of limbs, rolling across the basement floor. She was strong-supernaturally strong-and trained. Every move

I made, she countered.

But I had one advantage: this was my territory. My pack house. My responsibility to protect.

I wasn’t losing this fight.

I pinned her with enhanced strength, my claws at her throat. “Call off your team. Now.”

She smiled up at me, completely unafraid. “You’re too late. The lock is open. Lazarus just needs to push the door.”

I looked toward the cell and my heart stopped.

The door was indeed unlocked. Lazarus stood on the other side, his hand on the handle, ready to emerge into darkness and freedom.

Then light flooded the basement.

Bright, intense UV light that made Lazarus shriek and throw himself backward, away from the door he’d been about to open.

I looked up and saw Lake-my five-year-old not-quite-nephew-standing at the top of the basement stairs, his hands glowing with

portal magic. He’d opened multiple small portals positioned around the basement ceiling, each one aimed at the sun outside and

channeling daylight directly into the space.

Portable UV sources. Powered by dimensional magic instead of electricity.

“Uncle Thorne!” Lake called down. “I heard the noise and came to help!”

The woman beneath me went rigid with shock. Her teammates-still fighting with Marcus-froze as they realized their carefully

planned operation had just been countered by a five-year-old with impossible abilities.

“Lake, stay up there!” I commanded. “Keep those portals open!”

“Okay!” he agreed cheerfully, like this was completely normal.

The infiltrators were reassessing now, realizing their advantage had evaporated. Lazarus was still contained by Lake’s improvised UV

system. The power outage that was supposed to be their ace had been bypassed by portal magic they couldn’t have anticipated.

“Surrender,” I said to the woman. “Your operation failed. You’re outnumbered and outmaneuvered.”

She looked at her teammates, at Lazarus trapped again behind UV light, at Lake maintaining his portals with the kind of concentration that suggested he could hold them indefinitely.

“Retreat, she said quietly.

Her team immediately disengaged from Marcus and moved toward the stairs. But Lake blocked their path, his portals still active and his expression surprisingly fierce for a five-year-old.

“You tried to free the bad nightwalker,” Lake said. “That’s not nice.”

“Move, child, the woman said.

“No,” Lake said simply. “You’re going to stay until Dad gets here. Or until I portal you somewhere very far away. Like Antarctica. I’ve been practicing long-distance portals and I think I could manage Antarctica now.”

The woman stared at him, clearly trying to figure out if a five-year-old was seriously threatening to portal her to Antarctica.

“He absolutely could,” I confirmed. “And would. So I suggest you cooperate.”

Marcus had his phone out, already calling for backup. Within minutes, the basement was flooding with pack security, all of them armed and ready for combat.
