Chapter 536 Straight to the Covingtons

Sidney looked up at her blankly.

“If we leave, you’re still screwed either way. They can’t find us, so you think they won’t take it out on you instead?”

Sidney’s face turned even paler.

He knew Noelle was right.

The inspectors had taken a beating tonight. They were bound to take it out on someone.

If they couldn’t find Noelle and the others, then he, his wife, and his daughter would become the easiest targets.

Instead of answering, Noelle asked something completely unrelated. “You mentioned before that Mrs. Covington has trouble with her legs?”

Sidney froze, not understanding where this was coming from.

Lara was the first to react. She remembered mentioning it casually while Noelle was doing needle therapy for her, and she nodded quickly. “Right, right. Mrs. Covington’s been paralyzed for years. She can’t walk at all. Mr. Covington’s searched everywhere for doctors. Every famous doctor on the island’s seen her, but none of them could help. I even heard he secretly hired doctors from outside the island, but he kept it quiet…”

“How much power do the Covingtons have around here?” Noelle asked.

Sidney swallowed hard. “The Covingtons… They’re not on the level of the Four Great Families, but around this fishing village, they basically rule everything. All the inspectors answer to them. The rules around here are whatever they say they are.”

Noelle nodded.

Suddenly, Sidney realized what she meant. His eyes widened instantly. “Ms. Kain, y–you mean…”

“Take me to the Covingtons.” Noelle’s voice remained calm. “I can heal her legs.”

The courtyard went silent for a moment.

Sidney’s mouth dropped open and stayed there. “Y–you’re serious? So many doctors have tried to heal her legs. They all said there was no hope…”

“That’s them.” Noelle glanced at him. “If I say I can heal her, then I can.”

Lucas wiped the remaining blush off his face and added, “Relax. If Noey says she can heal somebody, then she can. Her medical skills are a million times better than those quacks on this island.”

Jasper said nothing, but he gave a small nod.

Sidney looked at Noelle and those calm, bottomless eyes of hers, and suddenly remembered the night he got bitten by the

venomous snake.

He’d thought he was dead for sure. Then she’d driven one needle down and dragged him straight back from death’s door.

He turned toward Noelle and took a deep breath. “Ms. Kain, let’s go. I’ll take you to the Covingtons.”

Lara watched them walk out of the courtyard, worry written all over her face. Her lips moved slightly, like she wanted to say something, but in the end, she swallowed the words back down.

She stood at the doorway, staring at their figures disappearing into the alley while her fingers gripped the edge of her clothes so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

Camille tugged on her sleeve and asked softly, “Mom, where did Noelle and the others go?”

Lara snapped out of it and forced a smile. “They went to take care of something. They’ll be back soon.”

She bent down, picked Camille up, and headed inside.

As she passed the rice barrel, her footsteps paused for a second. It felt like she’d forgotten something, but her mind was such a mess she couldn’t remember what it was.

The Covington Residence.

Dark brick walls. Gray–tiled roofs. A sprawling estate tucked behind towering iron gates. Weathered marble statues stood guard at the entrance, severe and imposing beneath the glow of the courtyard lights.

Four guards stood watch at the entrance with blades hanging at their waists, each of them stiff–faced as their sharp eyes swept over

the area.

The moment Sidney saw those gates from a distance, his legs started going weak.

A regular fisherman like him would never normally dare come near a place like this. He swallowed nervously and whispered, “Ms. Kain… this is the place…”

Noelle walked straight forward without hesitation.

Lucas followed behind her, still wearing that ridiculous floral shirt. He’d wiped off the blush, but faint red marks still lingered on his cheeks, making it look like someone had slapped him twice.

Jasper was still dressed like a fisherman.

The moment the four of them reached the gates, the guards immediately stepped in front of them.
