Chapter 55 After the Storm.

When they heard that Sebastian was out of danger, Primo and Duo were overjoyed.

They quickly followed Noelle’s instructions.

Lucas glanced sideways at Noelle and said, “You’re exhausted too. Go back to your room and get some sleep”

Noelle looked at him. “Thank you for today. If it weren’t for you, my husband wouldn’t have made it.”

“Hey–no,” Lucas clicked his tongue in disapproval. “I didn’t do much. The only reason he’s fine is because Dr. Kain here has unbelievable skills.”

He stressed the words on purpose, his tone sharp and sarcastic.

Noelle could tell he was angry that she had hidden her identity and played him for a fool.

“I didn’t hide it on purpose,” Noelle explained. “I told you before that I knew medicine, but none of you believed me. I made medicine myself, and you still wouldn’t let Sebastian take it. That’s why I had no choice but to put on a disguise.”

She paused, then added, “Besides, I treated everyone the same. I didn’t even tell Sebastian. He’s just smart. I don’t know when he figured it out.”

Lucas laughed in anger. “So now you’re calling me dumb, huh?”

Noelle looked innocent. “I’m just stating the facts.”

Lucas waved his hand in frustration. “Enough! Go to sleep! Look at your eyes- they’re so bloodshot it’s scary. I’m tired too. I’m going to rest.”

With that, Lucas left first.

Noelle truly was exhausted. The three–hour surgery had drained her completely. She went back to her room and fell asleep.

Sebastian didn’t wake up until noon the next day.

Lucas placed a bowl of grits in front of him with a cold laugh. “Drink it. Dr. Kain personally watched the cook make this for you.”

In truth, Noelle had ordered meat grits. Lucas had quietly swapped it for plain grits.

Haha! After the way this couple had played him, and he still wanted meat? Dream on. Plain grits it was. Grits filled the stomach just fine.

Sebastian said nothing. He picked up the spoon and calmly ate the grits.

Lucas stood beside him with a blank face, letting out a cold laugh now and then.

Sebastian took one spoonful.

“Ha!”

Sebastian finished the entire bowl without changing his expression. Only then did he speak. “I didn’t mean to hide it from you. I only found out recently that Noelle was Dr. Kain. I hadn’t had time to tell you yet.”

Lucas remained a flat face.

“It’s true,” Sebastian said with a sigh. “She hid it from both of us. I only found out by accident when I got back from the mall the day before yesterday. Yesterday, when you brought flowers to confess to Dr. Kain, I couldn’t find the right moment to explain.”

“Enough, enough!” The moment Lucas heard the words “flowers” and “confession,” he jumped up. “This topic is banned. Don’t bring it up again!”

It had taken him forever to finally feel something for a woman, and that woman turned out to be Noelle in disguise. Just thinking about it made goosebumps crawl up Lucas’s arms.

“Mr. Lucas,” Primo said with a smile as he walked over carrying a medicine tray. “It’s time to change Mr. Menzie’s dressing.”

Lucas snorted. “Isn’t there a highly skilled miracle doctor by his side now? Why would he need me? Get Noelle here to do it. I’m not about to be the third wheel between them.”

“She’s still sleeping,” Sebastian replied. “She worked very hard. Let her rest.”

Lucas actually laughed. “She worked hard? What about me?”

Even though he complained, he still sat down by the bed and started changing Sebastian’s dressing.

He checked the wound carefully. Noelle had handled it perfectly. It was summer, the easiest time for wounds to get infected, but the treatment was so clean and precise that there was no need to worry at all.

Her medical skill was impressive; even Lucas had to admit it.

He was still annoyed, so he was a bit rough. Sebastian frowned slightly but endured it. He looked at his tight–faced friend and spoke slowly. “I know you’ve had it hard too, Lucas. I’ve always been grateful to have a friend like you.”

Lucas shot him a look. “If you know that, then don’t get yourself covered in injuries next time!

“I’m not just mad that Noelle hid things from me,” Lucas said sharply. “I’m angry that you don’t take your life seriously at all! You blocked a bullet for him! Do you have any idea? If that wound had gone just one inch deeper, even Noelle might not have been able to save you?”

Lucas was furious. Compared to being deceived, what truly angered him was Sebastian putting himself in mortal danger.
