Lucas couldn’t help asking, “Noelle, where did you learn medical skills like this?”

Sebastian also looked at her, eager to know as well.

Her skills were better than those of many top doctors. Someone like that had ended up going to just a trade school.

It didn’t make sense at all.

This time, Noelle didn’t hide anything. She said honestly, “I learned medicine for Viola.”

“Viola?”

Lucas and Sebastian looked at each other, surprised.

“You both know I was adopted by the Kains,” Noelle continued. “Viola had a chronic illness; she also has rare R–type blood. Every few days, I was taken to the hospital to give blood for her. Lucas frowned. “No wonder Viola was so weak as a kid, but now she looks perfectly healthy. That was you?”

“Yes.” Noelle nodded. “I wanted to treat her properly, but no one in the family trusted me. They said I was a liar. So I could only mix small recovery

medicines into her daily food. The results were slow, but after more than ten years, her illness is almost gone.”

Sebastian remembered the moment Noelle had taken out the medicine bottle and how he and Lucas had doubted her. His expression tightened. They had doubted her skills too.

Lucas had still been a little mad about Noelle hiding her identity. After hearing this, he couldn’t feel angry at all anymore.

She had learned all this for the sake of Viola; the Kains treated her so coldly and even kicked her out of the house.

“They are blind!” Lucas said angrily. “If they knew what you could do, they’d regret it for the rest of their lives! If they hadn’t kicked you out, maybe Elmer wouldn’t have lost his leg!”

Then he laughed loudly. “And with skills like yours, getting into college would be easy! No need for me and Sebastian to donate buildings anymore. You’d get special admission for sure. Those old medical schools would fight over you! Honestly, you might skip being a student and go straight to teaching or even start working right away!”

Noelle laughed.

Sebastian’s lips slowly curved into a smile as well.

Lucas didn’t stay long. He wanted to give Noelle and Sebastian some time alone. He headed back to his herbal shop instead; he needed to tell his grandfather who Noelle really was.

Let the old man be shocked too.

Once Lucas left, it was just Noelle and Sebastian in the room.

Sebastian looked at her carefully. “Your eyes are still a little red. Do you want to go lie down and sleep some more?”

Noelle looked back at him. She didn’t move toward the bed. Instead, she asked quietly, “When did you find out that I was Dr. Kain?”

“The night we came back from the mall,” Sebastian replied. “I brought clothes to your room. When I opened the closet, I saw your veil. I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to look. It just happened to be sticking out.”

Noelle was surprised; it was the veil that gave her away. She had kept it with her clothes in the closet. The maids were never allowed to touch her things, and Sebastian rarely went near her wardrobe. That was why she had relaxed and fucked it underneath everything else. She never expected him to see it.

“So yesterday, you kept me at home on purpose?” Noelle finally realized.

“At first, I truly wanted to lead you to meet Dr. Kain,” Sebastian said calmly. “I didn’t expect that you were the miracle doctor. After l figured it out, I thought I’d tease you a little. Don’t be mad.”

From beginning to end, Sebastian stayed gentle and composed. He didn’t look angry at all. Instead, he was the one telling her not to be upset.

Noelle didn’t think she had done anything wrong, but his reaction still felt strange. When Lucas found out he had been fooled, he had at least exploded a little. Sebastian hadn’t. He never raised his voice once.
