Chapter 142 The Words That Hit Home
When Adrian called her name, Annelise stopped watching the spectacle.
She walked over and pressed her fingers to Snowball’s pulse.
This time, Snowball broke from his usual behavior and yanked his arm away almost immediately.
“I’m fine. Leave me alone.”

“Oh, come on,” Annelise said. “Did you suddenly lose your mind? Last time your chest hurt, you were sniffling and crying to me about it.”
“This time is different. Don’t worry about me.”
Well, that was new. Snowball’s temper had clearly flared.
Annelise put more pressure on his wrist. She could feel it clearly now-his fragile heart really was reacting to genuine anger this time. The irregular flutter was much worse than before.
“Stop talking,” she said firmly. “Calm down. Take a breath. Inhale.”
Instead of listening, Snowball shook off her hand and ran out into the courtyard.
“I’m really fine. I don’t need you managing me.”
Annelise reached out and poked his forehead. “Hey, Snowball. You know there’s a certain kind of person with a really strange personality. When people don’t hit the mark, he doesn’t take it seriously. He doesn’t get mad, but that doesn’t stop him from causing trouble or hurting others. But the moment someone says something that hits dead center, he takes it to heart. He gets angry. And only when the knife stabs into himself does he realize it hurts.”
Snowball knew perfectly well she was talking about him.
He played dumb and said nothing.
Annelise began inserting the needles as she spoke. “Snowball, don’t tell me you still have feelings for me. Otherwise, why would you get so angry over what Riven said?”
Snowball pressed his lips together, turned his head away, and muttered, “I just can’t stand him acting like he’s your mate.”
Annelise sighed and rubbed his head gently.
“You’d better mean that. You and I can be siblings for life-nothing more than that. Of

course, when you’re older, we can also be friends and talk about life. But anything else is off the table.”
Snowball responded impatiently that he understood, then complained about how long the needling was taking.
Annelise withdrew the needles. “All done. It wasn’t serious to begin with, but when you bottle up too much anger, your whole body ends up miserable.”
Just then, Adrian jogged over, his face full of worry.
“Ms. Crawford, is Snowball really okay? He didn’t get so mad that he hurt himself, did he?”
Snowball opened his mouth, then suddenly felt dull ache in his chest.
He asked hesitantly, “Annelise… will your acupuncture make my chest feel sore?”
“Of course not. Are you uncomfortable somewhere else?”
“Not really.”
Snowball thought about it. He had hurt Adrian before.
So why was this big, stupid rabbit worrying about him?
Annelise turned back to Adrian and reached out to scratch under his chin. Honestly, the texture was different from everyone else’s.
He didn’t look like he had a double chin at all, but when she touched him, the flesh was unbelievably soft.
“Bunny,” she said, “you’re so kind. I thought you be clapping happily.”
“I already did-in my heart,” Adrian said with a grin. “What Riven said felt pretty satisfying, so I applauded mentally. Haha.”
Seeing Snowball glare at him, Adrian hurriedly added, “But when Snowball told him to get out, that was exactly what I was thinking too. And more importantly, no matter what Snowball thinks, he’s your important little brother, Ms. Crawford. I don’t want anything to happen to him.”
That did it.
Those words softened Annelise’s heart completely.
They made Snowball feel even worse.

He flicked his sleeve and declared that he was going home, telling Annelise to be careful of Riven before leaving.
At that point, Annelise was truly exhausted.
She yawned and called out to Riven in the courtyard, “You wait until I’ve slept enough. Just you wait.”
Riven couldn’t be chased away anymore, and by now the whole tribe knew about the mess.
Sooner or later, Annelise would have to clear up the misunderstanding with him properly.
At least he had only made her mates jealous and hadn’t demanded anything else.
Riven lifted his chin slightly and said with calm confidence, “I’ll be waiting.”
With that, he turned and went back inside.
Adrian trotted over, his rabbit tail twitching. “M Crawford! Let me sleep with you tonight. Please let me. Or… Evan and I together would be fine too.”
What Adrian was really thinking was that with two males present, Annelise wouldn’t mate with either of them.
A perfect way to prevent her from mating with Evan.
To his shock, Annelise said, “You should sleep with room. As for me, I’m spending tonight with Evan.”

She immediately grabbed Evan’s hand and pulled him away.
