And just like that-reality slapped them in the face.

Adrian’s clothes began to rip apart at the seams as his body rapidly bulked up and expanded. His human features barely held on before his beast form burst through.
From the day Annelise arrived, she’d inherited memories from the original host-enough to know that in this world, male shifters rarely showed their beast forms unless absolutely necessary. They preferred to stay in human shape, mostly because their kind had evolved to the point where even they didn’t like seeing their animal sides.
But now, Adrian…
“Is he losing control?!”
In a flash, he grew massive. His body was now covered in thick white fur-plump-looking at first glance-but on his face, while the features still resembled a rabbit, there were now huge fangs protruding from his mouth.
“This isn’t Adrian anymore! He looks like one of those ferocious beasts from the Boundless Atlas! What even is he?!”
Annelise was frantically flipping through ancient bestiaries in her head.
Unfortunately, most of those texts were vague, only offering a sentence or two for each creature-and no illustrations. It was hard to visualize.
Then Riven spoke up, “He looks like a drakovore.”
“Huh? But I thought drakovore looked like dogs Annelise said, confused. “Like those howling-at-the-sky types-Skyhowlers or Starbarkers or whatever.”
Riven gestured sharply, signaling for them to get out. “I know the ones you’re talking about. But that’s just one kind. There’s another type-looks rabbit-like, but small. They eat lions.”
“Excuse me?”
Annelise blinked. “But Mr. Allen’s a lion shifter, and Adrian’s always been afraid of him. And Adrian’s huge right now-doesn’t sound like the same species.”
Riven shook his head slightly. “Judging by his features, he is that type of drakovore. I’ve seen them. In some tribes, everything looks normal until suddenly, one or two individuals are born different-larger, stronger. Still part of the species, but totally out of sync with the rest.”
A term popped into Annelise’s mind: genetic mutation.

And if Adrian really was a drakovore, it all started to make sense.
He’d always said his entire tribe was made up of bunnies-light eaters. Only he was constantly starving.

In this world, everyone hatches from eggs. It wasn’t impossible that some drakovore egg had been mixed up with a rabbit shifter’s egg early on. No one would’ve noticed.
From the moment Adrian hatched, he’d been fell only dried greens. No meat, ever.
He believed he was a rabbit. Believed meat would make him sick.
So… long-term anemia? Totally explainable.
“Do you think living the wrong kind of life for so long just made him snap?”
Hudson had lost it once too-but that had been emotional, from a deep lack of love.
Adrian’s was different. It might’ve been physical-pure nutritional deficiency.
Annelise voiced her thoughts, and Riven nodded. “So maybe… if we feed him meat now, we can calm him down?”
“Probably,” Annelise said. “But not those backyard chickens. White meat’s no good-it doesn’t replenish blood as red meat does.”
“Use my stash,” she added. “There’s frozen pork at the bottom of the big jar in the yard.”
“Got it.”
Hudson made a move to rush in and protect Annelise.
She quickly stopped him. “No-stay back. Watch your egg.”
Evan added, “I’ll protect Ms. Crawford. Even if I’m… just a peacock.”
He looked around, but quickly realized-even if he ran outside, it wouldn’t help much.
Adrian’s body kept expanding.
A moment later, he burst through the roof of the house.
“My roof!” Annelise cried out, heartbroken.
I only have three houses. Why?!
Still, despite his monstrous size, there was something oddly adorable about Adrian’s snowy

white fur.

Even with his giant body, he still had that familiar bunny face-just with terrifyingly large fangs now. But even those could retract.
Hey, once he calms down, Annelise thought, I could totally rub my back on his giant, fluffy belly. That’d be amazing!
So yeah, she was distressed, but also a little excited.
But right now, Adrian wasn’t thinking clearly.
His mind was filled with nothing but destruction.
