Chapter 228-1
Amelia Johnson’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. She humored Sabrina with a nod, saying, “Yeah, he’s been really swamped lately. Probably won’t make it tonight.”
She wasn’t the type to show off over stuff like this–just not her thing.
Mrs. Brown immediately thought Amelia was just making excuses because her boyfriend wasntpresentable enough to be seen in public.
Sabrina jumped in quickly, “Then, sis, when Ethan gets here, let’s all head back together, okay?”
“Let’s see when the time comes,” Amelia replied casually.
Mrs. Brown, seeing an opening, started getting chummy with Sabrina, clearly trying to butter her up for her own daughter’s sake.
Sabrina was loving the attention, riding high on the compliments like she was floating.
By the time dinner wrapped up, Mrs. Brown was practically ready to make Sabrina her goddaughter. She clung to Sabrina’s arm, completely ignoring her own kid.
“How about this–let’s just have Mr. Ethan send Poppy back later too?” She didn’t wait for a response, turning to her daughter, “Call your boyfriend, tell him not to bother coming. No point embarrassing ourselves.”
As time ticked by, more people took off, leaving only a small group of them.
Mrs. Brown, getting impatient, said, “Amelia, why don’t you just ride back with me? Otherwise, who knows how long we’ll be-”
“Whoa, look at that! Now that’s what I call a fancy ride!” she suddenly yelled, eyes lighting up at the sight in the distance.
Everyone turned to look, each with their own reaction.
Amelia’s eyes sparkled. She couldn’t hide her surprise–he actually showed up!
“This must be the Shadow, right? Joey’s design? I’ve heard so much about it, but seeing it up close? Totally lives up to the hype. Sabrina, thanks to you, I finally got to sit in one. What a treat!”
Sabrina’s face immediately turned sour, like she just swallowed something rotten. Every word of Mrs. Brown’s praise felt like a slap in the face–sting after sting.
She opened her mouth, trying to explain, but no words came out.
Mrs. Brown wasn’t done gushing yet, not until she saw Damien step out of the car. Then she practically froze in place, whispering like she was dreaming, “If only I were ten years younger…”
“Mom! What are you even saying?!” Poppy muttered in embarrassment.
Damien walked right toward their group, completely ignoring everyone else. His eyes landed only
“Mr. Ethan, you look so dashing tonight! This is my daughter, Puppy,” Mrs. Brown jumped in, dragging her daughter in front of him.
