Chapter 69 Misunderstanding
“I literally saw him heading that way, probably didn’t make it here before you slipped out,” Emily Carter said.
Arms crossed, Amelia Johnson shot her a sideways glance. “Then why didn’t you step in when Zoey Mitchell tried to slap me just now?”
Emily scratched her nose, a bit sheepish. “I was scared she’d swing at me too.”
Amelia cracked her knuckles. “Oh yeah? So you’re not scared of me?”
“Hey hey hey, just messing around! I knew you had it handled. Emily let out a dry snort. “But honestly, if that slap really landed, who cares who she is-I’d make sure she lost a few teeth.”

“Look at your ex standing right there like a statue. Didn’t say a word, didn’t move. What, sudden paralysis?” Emily scoffed in Ethan Collins’s direction, clearly unimpressed.
Amelia’s lips curled in a mocking smile. “He’s probably scared of embarrassment. Gotta keep his distance from me, right?”
“And you used to be so blind about him,” Emily sighed dramatically.
“If I’d really given up everything for him, what would you have done?” Amelia asked.
Emily pretended to clutch her heart. “What else? Be a good friend and forgive you, obviously!”
“You’re impossible,” Amelia said, giving her a quick side-eye.
All around, people were still whispering about Amelia’s academic background. Sabrina Johnson gave Ethan’s sleeve a tug. “Ethan, should we get someone to take my sister home?”
“She’s really something. Everyone’s talking, and she’s acting like nothing’s happening,” Ethan muttered coldly.
“She used to get embarrassed real easy… but lately, I don’t know.” Sabrina bit her lip hesitantly. “I’m not trying to talk bad about her, but she’s kinda changed. You’re not mad at me, right?”
Ethan looked at her gently. “Why would I be mad? You’ve always been thoughtful and well-behaved. What you said is spot-on-your sister’s gotten seriously bold. It’s embarrassing.”
Sabrina lit up at his response. “I’ll call someone to come get her now.”
Ethan nodded. “Yeah.”
Just then, a group of security guards headed toward Amelia.
The head guard said firmly, “Miss, you need to leave now.”
Amelia looked up. “And why’s that?”
“The event was by invitation only. You weren’t on the list.”
“My cousin graduated from Weston University. Didn’t the invitation say each guest could bring someone?”

Amelia replied, knowing Zoey Mitchell had definitely put the guards up to this.
The guard nodded. “Yes, but there’s an academic requirement too.”
“Funny how no one mentioned that when handing out invites.”
“I just follow orders, ma’am.”
“You sure about that? My credentials more than check out. What, need me to bring my diploma next time?”
“Please present it.”
“So I’m the only one here getting grilled?”
“Sorry, Miss, don’t make this harder for us.”

A big guard behind the leader stepped up. “Boss, quit wasting time. If she won’t leave, we’ll just drag her
out.”
Sabrina clung to Ethan’s arm. “Ethan, tell her to go now. If she stays, she might really get tossed out.”
