Amelia Johnson tore open a bag of chips. “Not a big deal, really. He just cares too much about saving face.”
Clar
“No way? From what I remember, you kinda cared too. You seemed pretty down back then,” Emily Carter said, raising an eyebrow.
Amelia grinned. “Yeah, well, I must’ve been outta my mind back then. Got my head straight now.”
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was Jack Mitchell calling.
After graduating from University College Moon, Amelia had changed her number. Only a couple of days ago had she finally given her new one to Jack.
“Hey, Amelia, got plans tonight?” His voice came through the line.
“Not really. What’s up, Jack?”
“Wanna go sing? Some University College Moon alumni are getting together.”
“Sure, sounds good,” she replied.
After she hung up, Emily looked at her with a teasing grin. “Who was that? You look all smiley.””
“I wasn’t smiling,” Amelia shot her a sideways glance. “It’s Jack. He invited me to go sing tonight.”
“You actually said yes?” Emily had thought the call was from Damien Taylor.
Amelia crunched down on a chip. “Why not?”
“Aren’t you worried Damien might get mad?”
“What’s he got to be mad about? It’s just karaoke. Plus, I think he’ll be there too-it’s a University College Moon alumni thing,” Amelia said, tilting her chin slightly. “Why would he be upset?”
“I think he’s got feelings for you,” Emily said seriously.
Amelia couldn’t help but feel a little pleased, whether it was true or not.
After dinner, Emily asked, “You think you’ll drink later? Need me to drop you off?”
Amelia thought for a moment. “Yeah, better if you do. I might have a drink or two.”
At the entertainment club.
The layout was kinda confusing. Amelia wandered for a bit without finding the private room Jack had mentioned. She was about to ask a waiter for help when Chloe Hughes suddenly stepped in her way.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Miss Johnson. What are you doing here?” Chloe’s tone dripped with sarcasm.
“Here to sing, obviously,” Amelia answered coolly. Just her luck running into Chloe when she was hoping to relax.
Chapter 79 to here
Chloe gave her a condescending look. “You sure you’re in the right place? This floor’s for VIP rooms.”
Amelia glanced at her and said, “Chloe, what’s your zodiac sign?”
“What’s that got to do with anything?” Chloe replied, clearly annoyed
“I just thought you’d get the saying ‘dogs minding cats’ business. So I figured, maybe you’re a dog?”
“Say that again if you dare!” Chloe flared up, furious that Amelia would insult her like that.
Amelia blinked innocently. “Say what?”
“You called me a dog,” Chloe said through gritted teeth.
Amelia giggled behind her hand. “Did I? Sounds like you just confirmed it yourself.”
“You-!” Chloe was so angry, she looked like smoke might actually come out of her ears.
Right then, Zoey Mitchell walked over. “Chloe, what’s going on?”
Chloe pointed a finger at Amelia, fuming. “She insulted me.”
