Chapter 107 Who’s Behind Her
Finished
Nara had been ready to let the whole thing go, and that question pulled a short laugh out of her. “She apologizes, so I have to forgive her?”
“What else do you want? Dr. Blithe didn’t do it on purpose. Her people made the mistake. What does that have to do with her?” Sienna shot it back at her, refusing to give an inch.
“Sienna, you’re a pig. No, wait. Pigs are cute and you’re not. A dog, then?” Nora shook her head again. “Thay doesn’t work either. Dogs are smart. Forget it, there’s no animal low enough. I’m not wasting the words.
“You…”
Nora smiled at her. “I’m sorry. There, I apologized. Now forgive me. What else do you want?”
Sienna’s lips shook with temper, and she had nothing to come back with.
Cordelia stayed pleasant with her. “The fault really is mine, and I’m very sorry. If you’re unhappy about anything, take it up with me. Leave Sienna out of it.”
That got to Sienna. She was being defended for real, and that apology to Nora had been made on her
account.
She started to say something else, and Cordelia stopped her. “That’s enough out of you. I apologized, she accepted it, and this ends here.”
There was no sense burning any more time on something this small, and she wanted the auction started.
Gideon came hurrying over and frowned at Nora. “None of this is on my teacher. You made me deliver lunch and wash your car last time, and I’ve been sore about it since, so I used her name to get you brought
here.”
She gave him a look. “Gideon.”
He really does love taking the fall for people.
“I’m sorry.” That was all Gideon could give her.
He couldn’t let his teacher’s name take a hit, small as the whole thing was.
Adrian asked her too. “Are you feeling better about it now?”
Mandy heard the question and hated it. She wanted to say something.
But she was afraid of another blowup, so she turned away and acted like she hadn’t heard.
“Fine,” Nora said. “Everyone’s apologized, so I’ll leave it for now.”
She took out her phone and messaged Rosalind. “Cordelia apologized to me. I want to bid on a few things for you and Julian while I’m here.”
There was no answer, and Nora didn’t mind. The problem was solved.

Chapter 107 Who’s Behind Her
Finmhed
Rosalind really was something, though. She could reach into an auction the Whitlocks were running and have it called off whenever she felt like it.
Who is my grandmother, really?
Zane called back, and the knot in Adrian’s chest loosened.
“This auction is how I find my sister. Don’t you dare wreck it. If you do, forget the project you’re after. The Pierces themselves would be…” He didn’t finish it, and the dry laugh said the rest.
The Whitlocks weren’t old money. They held real power, and that was a different thing altogether.
One word from them and the right agencies would move, and the Pierces would be bankrupt by morning.
Adrian’s face went tight. “Understood.”
“Who is this Nora Sinclair?” Zane asked. “Who’s backing her?”
Adrian glanced up at her and dropped his voice. “She’s married to Julian Weston.”
“Ahhh.” Zane drew it out, then hung up.
Adrian looked at his phone, then at Nora. “The auction goes ahead. Everyone inside, please.”
Julian had to be the one helping her. He couldn’t think of anyone else it could be.
Inside the hall, Adrian turned to her. “We’ll be up in a private box. Do you want to sit with Mandy?”
Mandy joined in, just as warm. “Come on, Nora, sit with us. Anything you like, I’ll bid on it for you. Our hotel handled tonight badly and you got the worst of it, so let me make it up to you.”
Nora’s brows went up. “That generous?”
When Mandy turned warm, she was up to something.
She linked their arms, all affection. “You’re my sister. If I’m not generous with you, who would I be generous
with?”
Nora looked down at the hand on her arm, and the look was cold enough that Mandy laughed it off and let
Nora lifted her eyes then and smiled. “Well, if you’re that generous, I won’t hold back. I want every lot in the room. Go ahead and bid.”
Mandy choked on it. Her face went red, and she had to fight down the urge to roll her eyes.
The nerve of her. Every lot in the room, and she says it with a straight face.
“I’ll use my own money and get you one present. Come on, it’s about to start.”
Mandy pulled her toward the box before she could ask for anything else that outrageous.
After the scene outside, there was no lead-in at all. The bidding started straight away.
