Chapter 106 The Apology
Somebody in the crowd behind Nora said it low. “Let’s just hope nobody has made Dr. Blithe angry Losing the auction is one thing, but if the Pierces get on the wrong side of the Blithes, they’ll have a hard time ever seeing a doctor again.”
No hospital would turn a patient away, of course. But a well-known doctor could always be busy, or say the surgery couldn’t be booked for a while, and dragging it out was all it took.
Everyone got sick sooner or later, and that made a doctor worth staying on good terms with/
And here was Nora, in front of everyone, demanding that Cordelia apologize to her, and do it in person!
It was unbelievably arrogant, and no wonder Sienna was laughing that hard.
None of the laughter moved Nora. She laid it out calmly. “It doesn’t matter who Cordelia is, or that she’s old. She didn’t show anyone any respect, so she owes an apology.
“Does a big name give her a pass? Does being old? She should know better at her age!”
Sienna wiped the tears off her face. “Where did Dr. Blithe fail to respect you? She never invited you. You’re the one who turned up without an invitation and then lied about it. Who else is there to blame?
“I asked Dr. Blithe myself. She never invited you. The two of you barely know each other, and you’re always going after Olivia. Why would she invite you?”
Nora watched her rush to Cordelia’s defense and gave up on her. “I’m not wasting words on an idiot. That’s the last minute gone, and she isn’t going to make it down here. I’m leaving.”
This time the bodyguard didn’t dare stop her.
But Adrian stepped forward and put himself in her way. “Wait. It won’t take long. This auction matters.”
Mandy frowned, thought it over, and came forward to plead with her. “Nora, wait a little longer. Do it for me, please?”
Sienna folded her arms. “Let her go. I don’t believe for a second that the auction gets cancelled, and Dr. Blithe is never coming down here to apologize to her.”
Nora turned sideways and walked right past Adrian.
“Wait!” The shout came from the hotel entrance, rushed and out of breath, a voice with age in it.
“Nora, wait! I’m apologizing for what happened. I’m truly sorry!”
Nora turned around and found Cordelia running at her, past caring how any of it looked, her hair shaken loose from its perfect set.
“Dr. Blithe?” Sienna stared at the sight of her running and apologizing at once, and she couldn’t believe her
eyes.
The rest of them were just as stunned. “So Dr. Blithe really did come down inside five minutes to apologize to her?”

Chapter 106 The Apology
Cordelia was almost out of air. She reached Nora, braced her hands on her knees, and hauled in breath.
I’m sorry.”
Nora checked her watch, and her brows lifted. “Five minutes, right on the nose. You’re in good shape for your age, Dr. Blithe.” None of it was a compliment.
But Cordelia let it go this time: At her age, that run had nearly finished her, and without the last of her breath behind it, she’d never have made five minutes.
Sienna propped her up and grabbed a bottle of water off one of the bodyguards for her. “Dr. Blithe, why are you apologizing to her? She’s the one trying to use your name to get into the auction.”
Cordelia’s throat was on fire and her heart was slamming against her ribs.
She drank, got her breath back, and slipped straight back into the respected healer everyone knew.
Cordelia looked at Nora and explained it to the rest of them. “I’m the one who sent for Nora and asked her to come tonight. My people misunderstood and didn’t hand over the invitation in time, and that’s how all of this happened.
“I’m truly sorry.”
Sienna’s eyes went wide. “Dr. Blithe, you really did invite her?”
That got a hard laugh out of Nora. “In time? They had the invitation on them the whole drive over. Did one of your people take it out? Nobody even told me an invitation was needed.
“From the moment I was stopped at that door until now, did a single one of your bodyguards say you had invited me? Did any of them speak up for me?”
Nora looked at her, hard. “Is that a misunderstanding? That was deliberate. You set it up to humiliate me. The only problem is you picked the wrong person.”
The crowd watched Cordelia apologize, listened to all of it, and finally understood what had happened.
“Dr. Blithe really did invite her. Even without the invitation, somebody should have arranged it with the hotel.”
“Exactly. One thing after another, and that’s how it turned into this. If she hadn’t had somebody in her corner, they’d have laughed her out of here tonight.”
“If it were me, I’d have cried, run out of here, and been a wreck for a month.”
Cordelia heard what all of it was doing to her name, took a breath, and bowed her head to Nora. “I didn’t think it through. None of it was meant to make things hard for you. I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry.
“Please don’t stay angry. The Pierces have spent a long time preparing this auction, and one of the lots is a rare herb that drug research badly needs.
