Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 109

Chapter 109 The Final Lot

hooth things over with Julian?” Nora let out a short laugh. “No need.”

Constarice was the one who had put the divorce on the table.

One way or another, it ended in a divorce or a funeral, and there was no third ending, so there was nothing to smooth over.

Sienna huffed at her. “I knew you didn’t care about Julian. Olivia suits him better anyway. She’s bidding on the obsidian to get him a pair of cufflinks.”

She scoffed and turned to go, and outside the door she ran straight into Adrian and Mandy coming out of the box next door.

His eyes slid over to her, flat and cold.

It went through her like ice, and she walked faster.

“Did she just come past?” Adrian asked.

Mandy brushed it off. “Probably. It doesn’t matter.”

If Sienna had heard them, so much the better.

Then, whether or not Nora photographed the proposal, the Westons weren’t taking that project.

And she and Julian would end up at each other’s throats over it.

Mandy had been the one left a widow the first time around. Why me? She married into that same house and he lived. I can’t stand watching her have it easy.

Sienna hurried back to her own box, still white in the face, glancing over her shoulder every few steps.

She looked like she’d seen a ghost, and Olivia had to ask. “Sienna, what happened?”

“Olivia, you’re here too.” Sienna dropped into the seat beside her and let out a breath at last, like someone who had just made it out of something.

She looked around the box and found Cordelia, but no Gideon.

Olivia nodded. “There’s an important lot tonight and I didn’t want anything going wrong, so I came. Gideon had an emergency surgery and left.”

Sienna’s face fell.

Olivia looked her over, concerned. “Are you not feeling well? You’re so pale.”

The two of them were close, so Sienna didn’t hold it back. “I ran into Adrian out there and he was suddenly terrifying. Nothing like the easy, polished version everyone else gets. He looked at me like he wanted me dead.”

“Adrian?” Olivia turned to her. “What have you done, to have a guilty conscience like that?”

Adrian was warm with people and easy to be around, and nothing about him frightened anyone. He was the

every parent held up as an example.

The name brought Cordelia’s eyes around to Sienna as well.

She couldn’t decide what to do with it, so she told them. “I heard them talking out there. They want Nora to photograph Julian’s project proposal, and she agreed to it!

“So I thought Adrian wanted me dead to keep it quiet.”

Olivia took a sip of her coffee without a flicker. “That doesn’t sound right. Nora is Jules’s wife. There’s nothing in it for her.”

“Who knows,” Sienna said. “I don’t even know whether she really agreed.”

“Do you have proof they said Nora would photograph it?” Olivia asked.

Sienna checked her phone and came up with nothing. “No.”

She’d been too rattled while she was listening to think about recording any of it.

Olivia looked let down. “Then keep it to yourself for now. I’d hate for Jules to get the wrong idea about Nora.”

Cordelia was serious with her too. “This is not a small thing. Do what Olivia says and say nothing for now. Go home and ask your family. Ask your grandmother, and hear what they make of it.

“They may have said it in front of you on purpose, to turn your family against Nora.”

Sienna nodded, then looked at Cordelia with open admiration. “You two are the smart ones, and the bigger people. Neither of you is even angry with Nora, and you still defend her, when she can’t take a kindness and keeps going after you and Olivia.”

Olivia smiled at her. “That’s enough of that. The last lot is coming up.”

That moved Sienna off it at once. “Olivia, what is the last lot?”

Olivia looked down at the block. “I got an anonymous message. The last lot is Clearheart, supposedly made by the Snowbell Healer, and it’s supposed to pull poison out of the body.

“The message said it’s the medicine Julian has to have for his third round of treatment!”

Olivia’s temper climbed as she talked. “I’d like to see who’s passing themselves off as the Snowbell Healer, and selling people a lie like that!”

The message had landed out of nowhere, on her phone and on her grandmother’s, claiming the auction at the Wyndmere tonight had Clearheart in it, made by the Snowbell Healer.

But no Clearheart had ever come out of Cordelia’s hands, and she had never said a word about any medicine treating Julian.

Olivia had no doubt about it. Somebody was wearing her grandmother’s name, passing themselves off as the Snowbell Healer.
