Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 150

Chapter 150 We’ll Be Family

Adrian looked away, flustered.

“She said the two of you had a romantic lunch somewhere expensive, and you bought her a bag for $1,000,000.”

Nora’s phone lit up while she was saying it, and the photos were there, sent on purpose.

She opened them. Mandy and Adrian at lunch together, and one of Mandy holding up the bag.

It embarrassed him, and there was something guilty in it too, as though he’d been caught out on a date with Nora behind his girlfriend’s back.

She didn’t answer the messages, just turned the screen off and looked up at him. “Mandy is crazy about you. You’ve ignored her for days, and she’s certain you’re disgusted with her and you’re going to drop her.”

“I’m not disgusted with her. It’s only…” Adrian stopped, then went on. “It’s only that the new project came through and I’ve been busy.”

He wasn’t disgusted with her. It was that seeing her brought the scene back, and then he couldn’t stop the sick feeling and the crawl of it over his skin.

Adrian looked up and explained it to her very seriously. “I’m not. When you care about somebody, whatever happens, as long as she didn’t mean for it to happen, it doesn’t change anything.”

That struck Nora as funny, and she smiled back at him. “Then you should make the time, sit her down, explain, and be with her.

“She was raised spoiled, so she can be a handful, but she really does love you. Without you, it would kill her.”

Adrian took the advice. “Mm.”

“She told me you took her somewhere expensive and bought her a bag,” Nora said, “so that’s clearly what she wants. Do that and she’ll be fine. She’s easy to please.”

“All right.” Adrian had lost interest in discussing Mandy, and he looked at the food, all of it out now. “Let’s eat. We’ll talk about the new contract afterward.”

He picked up a fork to serve himself, and one look down the table told him everything was either something he disliked, something with cilantro in it, or something he was allergic to.

Adrian looked at her, puzzled. “You ordered all of this?”

Nora played it straight back at him. “Is something wrong?”

He put the fork down and reached for the soup instead. “Nothing.”

It was a fish chowder, thick and white, without a trace of anything fishy in the smell, and it was the one thing on the table he could eat.

Adrian took the spoon and tried a small mouthful. His face changed on the spot, and he worked to keep it under control.

Nora looked up at the work he was putting into keeping his face straight. Her mouth curved, and she went

ck to enjoying her lunch.

Getting a fish chowder that clean and that white took a little celery root cooked into the base. It pulled the fishy edge out without leaving any taste of its own, so the fish still came through.

Nobody ordinary would ever taste it.

But Adrian was mildly allergic to celery root and couldn’t stand the stuff, and even a trace of it came through for him.

He looked down a table where the only things he could put in his mouth were the bread and the wine, and he turned to her. “You seem to know a lot about me.”

She’d ordered every dish on the table. He didn’t believe that was coincidence. She knew what he ate, wha he wouldn’t touch, and what he was allergic to.

Nora looked blank. “Sorry?”

“Nothing.” And just like that, Adrian’s mood came back up.

He didn’t order anything else, and he ate the bread and made himself take a little of what he disliked, the eggplant casserole included.

Since he didn’t want to eat, he started on business. “What do you want in Sabrina’s contract?”

Everstone was a top-10 jewelry name in the country. Handled well, the partnership could only help Sabrina.

“A proper agency on the shoot. I don’t want a repeat of today. And as for the terms…”

Nora was all business once she started, and she went through it without stopping, none of it aimed at him, every point inside what was reasonable.

Once they’d settled it, the assistant went to print the contract.

By the time they’d finished eating, Nora and Adrian had each read it through, found nothing wrong, and signed. The new contract was done.

“Good doing business with you.” He put his hand out to her.

Nora glanced at it and didn’t take it. She only smiled faintly. “Good doing business with you.”

Adrian pulled his hand back, awkward, and looked at her. “There’s no reason for us to be at odds. I…

He stopped, and his eyes stayed on her, and then he said it. “I’m your sister’s boyfriend. Sooner or later we’ll be family, and that goes for your husband’s people as well.

“If you and I get on, it amounts to a marriage between two strong houses. There’s even less reason to be

enemies.”

Adrian had no wish to be her enemy. The Westons stood behind her.

If he did marry Mandy, then he and Julian would be brothers-in-law, family, two strong houses joined.
