Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155 A Scene at the Peregrine

en, Mandy looked straight at him. “You’ve had lunch with Nora?”

The accusation in it made Adrian frown, but he didn’t deny it. “Yes.”

Mandy held herself together and got the next question out through her teeth. “When?”

Finished

Adrian hated being interrogated, but Mandy had saved his life, so he pushed it down and explained. “A lunch today. You called her while I was sitting across from her at-”

Mandy broke and talked over him. “Why were you having lunch with her?

“You know what she did to me, and you still sat down to eat with her!

“What is she after? Is she trying to get her hands on you? You’re my boyfriend. She’s such a bitch, she has to

Adrian lost his own temper. “Mandy, stop assuming the worst about her. We were talking business, nothing else!

“What happened that day wasn’t something she arranged! At lunch she was telling me you feel unsafe, that I should take better care of you, buy you flowers, buy you a bag-”

Mandy cut in again. “So you took me to dinner and bought the flowers and the bag because she told you to?”

Adrian was quiet for a moment, then he nodded. “Yes.”

For days, he had been stuck on the sight of Mandy pinned under Trevor. Even knowing how it ended, he couldn’t get clean of it.

He had kept his distance and buried himself in work, hoping he could wipe that scene out of his head before he talked to her again. Left to himself, he wouldn’t have seen her this soon.

It was Nora who moved the dinner up, and before he came, he had sent his assistant out for the flowers and the bag.

Mandy’s whole face burned. She had been up on a stage all evening, performing for a room full of people who were laughing at her.

The family thread, the posts, every one of them was a joke now, and every one of them came back and landed across her face.

At lunch, she had been bragging to Nora about how happy they were, and the whole time, Nora had been sitting across from Adrian.

I’m the clown here.

Mandy shot to her feet and yelled at him. “She wasn’t looking out for you. She wanted a front-row seat while I made a fool of myself. She’s a snake!”

Adrian stood up too, his voice low and hard. “Mandy, that’s enough! Whatever you want to say, say it at home. You don’t think this is embarrassing?”

Chapter 155 A Scene at the Peregrine

By then, every table around them had turned, some curious, some openly disgusted.

Somebody was actually making a scene at the Peregrine.

Then, everything on the table went over with a crash.

Finished

Mandy had stopped thinking. She snatched up the bouquet and threw.it at him. “You’re my boyfriend! Why are you taking her side?

“I don’t need her charity! She never loses it, she’s never the embarrassment, so go love her instead!”

All of it, the romance and the bag she had been showing off all night, came from Nora telling Adrian to do it. It was a handout, and it was a slap.

By then, the other diners had recognized him. “That’s Adrian Pierce, isn’t it?”

Someone at the next table leaned in. “Is that his girlfriend? Who has the nerve to blow up in here? She isnt from any of the old families either. That’s his taste?”

A server came straight over to Mandy. “Ma’am, you’re disturbing the other guests. I’m going to have to ask you both to leave.”

Getting thrown out of a restaurant in the middle of dinner was about as humiliating as it got.

Adrian had always cared how things looked, and he was visibly furious, but he kept his voice even for the server. “I’m sorry. We’re leaving.” Then, he took Mandy by the arm and steered her toward the door.

Mandy twisted out of his grip and kept going. “I’m not leaving. Say it plainly. Do you have feelings for her?”

Then, a voice carried across the room. “Mr. Weston. Ms. Sinclair!”

Mandy looked up, and there they were, Nora and Julian standing a few feet away.

Nora was the one Mandy couldn’t look away from. She had the black roses in one arm and that one-of-a- kind $3,000,000 bag hanging from her other hand, and she held the room without trying. She was watching Mandy like she was the evening’s entertainment, and she had clearly been at it for a while.

Mandy went half out of her mind. She threw Adrian’s hand off and stormed over to stand in front of Nora. “Are you enjoying this?”

Nora blinked at her, all innocence. “I passed your words along to Mr. Pierce so he could give you what you wanted. You should be thanking me.

“Otherwise the only thing you’d have to show off is a bag you bought yourself and a picture off the internet to prove you’re in love, and who knows when Adrian would have taken you anywhere. Maybe he’d have dumped you first.”

“You…” The words landed exactly where they hurt, and Mandy glared at her. “You fake little snake. You think this is going to break me and Ace up?”

Nora laughed at that. “So putting in a good word for you makes me a snake? Fine. From now on I’ll stop saying you love Adrian, and I’ll say you love his money, that you’re not kind, and that you’d never put yourself on the line for him.
