Chapter 156 Happy Breakup

raised a brew. “Throw her out. The other guests are trying to eat.”

“ག

Julian turned to the general manager. “Put her on the blacklist. She doesn’t set foot in the Peregrine again.”

Mandy went blank as they marched her toward the doors. Getting thrown out and blacklisted in the same night was something she would never live down.

Mandy begged Adrian. “Ace, don’t let them throw me out. Help me. I’m your girlfriend!”

He took in the wreck around their table, the stares coming at them from every direction, and then Mandy’s face, twisted up with rage. Nothing about her matched the calm, decent girl who had saved him.

“This is Mr. Weston’s restaurant. There’s nothing I can do. And…”

Adrian stopped, then made himself look at her. “Let’s not see each other for a while. Don’t call me either. We both need to cool off.”

Mandy froze, and then the panic hit.

To Mandy, no seeing each other and no calling could only mean a breakup.

Nora raised a brow at her. “See? I split the two of you up after all.”

She was smiling wide and bright, not bothering to hide how much she was enjoying every second of it.

“You bi-”

Mandy was still screaming at her when a guard clamped a hand over her mouth. Two of them took an arm each and hauled her out of the restaurant. There was nothing left of her dignity by the time she hit the doors.

Nora picked up the new bag and held it out after her. “Happy breakup.”

Mandy had no free hand for it, so a server carried it out and followed her.

Adrian looked at Nora, bright and unbothered by any of it, and felt like the clown himself. “I’m sorry your dinner got interrupted. Tonight is on me.”

He turned to the general manager. “Put their table on my account.”

Then, he couldn’t stand to stay either, and on his way out he found Mandy on the pavement where the guards had dumped her, a server spraying disinfectant around her.

Everyone walking past had stopped to stare at her.

Adrian stopped in front of her. “I’ll have someone drive you home. Stop making a scene. It looks awful.”

Adrian walked off after that. Mandy decided that dragging it out would only cost her more, so she got into the car and went.

Chapter 156 Happy Breakup

Nora had just finished eating when Victor called, his voice low. “Where are you?”

“T

Peregrine,” she said.

Finished

“Come home. Now.” He hung up before she could answer.

Nora turned to Julian. “No movie tonight. My dad wants me home, so you should head back.”

“Because of Mandy?” he asked.

“Mm.”

Julian could guess the rest of it. “I’ll come with you.”

Nora thought about it and turned him down. “Don’t. If you’re standing next to me, they’ll all be on their best behavior.”

With Julian in the room, Victor would be too busy fawning over him to question her about anything.

And she wanted them at their worst. The uglier they got, the better it worked out for her.

Nora drove off on her own, and Julian called Miles to come get him.

Then, he sent for the general manager. “Is Mandy on the blacklist?”

The manager answered carefully. “Yes, sir. Her face is in the system. She won’t get through the door again.”

Once a name went on that list, every new hire was trained to recognize it, and nobody on the list ever got in.

Julian nodded once. “Send the notice out in 40 minutes.”

The drive from the Peregrine to the Sinclair house took 30 minutes.

On the way, Nora texted Ryder. “How’s it coming along?”

He wrote back, “Not bad. Want to come look it over?”

Nora sent, “Yes. I’m on my way to the Sinclair house.”

Ryder answered, “OK. 50 minutes or so.”

Nora put the phone away and drove, and it wasn’t long before she pulled in at the house.

She had barely gotten out of the car when she heard Mandy inside, sobbing her way through her version of the night.

“Nora is already married to Julian. Why does she have to take Ace from me too? What did I ever do to her?

“She was out at lunch with Ace behind my back, and when I called her she said nothing about it. She wanted to watch me make a fool of myself, and then she had me thrown out of the Peregrine!

“I finally got things back on track with Ace, and now he wants to break up with me because of her!
