It wasn’t that Wren hadn’t gone after office work, or work in her own field.

The companies she applied to heard her name and turned her down without opening her resume.

Not every door closed. Cleaning crews and dishwashing jobs would take her, and so would the places where the real job was entertaining male clients.

Wren had heard why. Damon had made calls, and after that nobody would touch her.

One look at her face and Nora guessed most of it. Damon and Fiona had their hands in this somewhere

She could have asked Julian to clear it up, and then she thought better of it. The sooner Wren gave up or Damon, the better, because loving him longer only meant more pain, and in her last life it had ended with Wren dead.

Then, she remembered the med spa she had no time to run. “Quit the deliveries. I own a med spa. Come run the treatment side for me.”

“Me?” Wren waved both hands. “I can’t. All I have is the degree. I’ve never worked a day in it. I’d ruin the place for you.”

Nora glared at her. “You majored in esthetics and body treatment. Skin science, clinical treatment protocols, every technique they teach…

“You had top marks in all of it. Where is the part where you can’t?”

Wren still tried to say no.

Nora cut her off. “Damon gaslit you into believing you’re no good at anything. You are good. It’s settled. Turn me down again and I’m not speaking to you for three minutes.

“Your back isn’t that bad, and I’m here anyway, so tomorrow I’m taking you over to see the place.”

Nora would rather have given her two days off, except two days meant two more days to talk herself out of it, so work it was. Busy people had no time to sit and turn things over.

Wren knew Nora was helping her, bossy and warm at the same time, and she stopped refusing.

The next morning, Nora drove her over to the spa.

Wren looked up at the sign. “The Pretty Pretty Salon?”

“That’s the one.” Nora shrugged. “I squeezed it out of Yvette when I got married, and the whole building is mine. I shut it down after I took over and had it gutted and redone. All it needs now is a name.

“So name it for me. And you studied this, your whole class studied this, which makes hiring the estheticians and the clinical staff your job too.

“Look at the build-out and the equipment while you’re at it, and tell me what needs changing or adding.”

Put her inside a spa and back on her own subject, and Wren couldn’t stop talking.

Chapter 173 A Name for the Spa

“Don’t do front-lit lettering on the logo wall. It washes out when customers take pictures. Make it backlit so

Hetters read clean.

“For equipment, IPL, a picosecond laser…”

Nora watched her light up while she talked, and for a moment it was like watching Wren come back to life.

Nora got her phone out fast and took a picture of her like that.

The shutter made Wren turn around, uneasy. “Did I say something wrong? I told you I’m not right for this. Let’s drop the idea of me running treatments.”

Nora pushed the phone at her so she could see the photo. “Believe in yourself for once. You can do this.

Wren looked at herself in it, animated, eyes bright, a version of herself she hadn’t seen in years, and it left her a little dazed.

Nora waved a hand in front of her face. “Don’t tell me you still don’t believe it.”

If that was the case, she was ready to crack that head open and see what was inside it.

Wren came back to herself and smiled at her. “It isn’t that. I think I got a piece of myself back. I’ll do this properly, I promise.”

That settled Nora. “Better. Now give the place a name.”

“Nora Beauty?” Wren said, eager to help.

“That’s tacky. No.”

“Bella Nora, then. It sounds elegant and it’s easy to remember.”

“It sounds like a cruise ship. Try again.”

Wren threw out several more and Nora shot down every one of them, because she had decided the name had to carry her own in it somewhere.

In the end, she settled it herself. Renora, the two of their names folded into one word.

For the next seven days, she ran back and forth between Starfall and Renora with barely a minute to spare.

Once it was clear that Wren had poured herself into the work, hadn’t said Damon’s name once, and was steadily getting better, Nora handed her the whole operation.

The first free afternoon she got, she went to the hospital to see Rosalind, who looked well enough as long as nothing flared up.

So Nora went to work on her. “Grandma, when you have time, come keep an eye on Renora for me and check Wren’s work.”

Rosalind looked at her. “So it’s a spa keeping you busy now. Nothing else?”
