Chapter 172 Ten Times Over
Damon said nothring.
Wren laughed at the sight of him, short and cold. “No, I’m not satisfied. Fiona can go blow up the condoms.
“And don’t blame me for not talking Nora out of it. I already made her angry tonight. She isn’t listening to
me.”
They were Fiona’s own words from a minute earlier, handed straight back to her.
Watching Wren hold her ground for once took some of the weight off Nora’s chest.
With Julian standing there, Fiona didn’t dare refuse, so she went and started blowing.
Putting one of those to her mouth in front of a room full of staring people was the most humiliating thing she had ever done.
Humiliating or not, she kept going.
The whole bag had been meant for Wren. All of it was supposed to land on her, which was why she had told Ian to order 10 boxes.
And then Nora walked in, and all of it came back on Fiona instead.
I hate them. Hating Julian was out of the question, so every bit of it went to Nora and Wren.
They had blown up every condom in all 10 boxes.
Fiona swallowed the rest of it and looked up. “Are we done now?”
Nora was smiling when she took two large bags from a delivery driver who had just come through the door and dropped them in her lap. “Ten times over. Blow up every one of these too.”
Fiona looked at the two or three dozen boxes and lost her grip on her temper. “You-”
“I what?” Nora said.
Fiona took a breath and forced the anger back down. “I’ll blow them.”
Wren still looked bad, so Nora had no interest in staying. She pointed up at the security camera. “I’m leaving. Don’t stop. I’ll be watching the footage tomorrow.”
Nora took her by the arm. “Let’s go.”
Julian looked around at the rest of the table. “Keep an eye on those two. One balloon short and it lands on you.”
Fiona had assumed the humiliation would end the moment Nora walked out. It didn’t.
Julian caught up to them at the door. “I’ll drive you both home.”
Nora glanced at him, thought about having to look after Wren, and didn’t argue. “All right.”

Nora helped her into the car and checked her pulse. “You’re fine. You recovered well from the surgery. You
got too upset, and you’ve been running yourself into the ground. Rest and it’ll pass.”
Wren gave her a thin smile. “I’m sorry. I made trouble for you, and they humiliated you because of me.”
Nora glared at her. “I’m not the one who got humiliated tonight. You are. And it wasn’t those two who made me angry. It was you.
“What did Damon say to you that had you begging me like that? And then you stepped in front of him.
Wren dropped her eyes. “What he said doesn’t matter. Fiona’s pregnant, and if something happened to her, it would come back on you.”
What Damon had told her was that if she didn’t smooth this over, he would come after Nora no matter who stood behind her, and after her family as well.
He was the kind of man who would, and Wren wasn’t going to bring that down on her.
Nora was still angry. “Why is it always everybody else with you? Think about yourself for once. Start there.”
Wren looked up and smiled at her. “You’re not everybody else.”
That earned her another glare.
Julian watched the two of them in the rearview mirror. With family, Nora let herself be seen.
With him there was still a wall up, and a distance she kept on purpose.
At the apartment, Nora turned to him. “I’m staying with Wren tonight. Don’t wait up for me.”
Julian nodded. “Call me if anything comes up.”
“I will. Drive safe. Bye.”
“Text me when you’re inside.”
Nora meant to watch him drive off, except he left the window down and sat there looking at her, plainly intending to see her upstairs first.
Nora let it go and took Wren inside.
Once they were in the apartment, she went out to the balcony, and his car was still at the curb.
‘She pulled out her phone and texted him. “I’m inside. Text me when you get home too.”
Julian looked up at the building, found her outline on the balcony, wrote back one word, and pulled away.
Nora watched the car until it was out of sight, then went back to the living room. “So what happened? Why are you delivering food?”
Wren answered easily. “I moved out of the Winter house. I have to feed myself somehow.”
Nora frowned. “Damon didn’t give you a settlement?”
