Chapter 180 Thrown Out of the Party

Fashed

Achat moment, almost nobody in that room cared who had poisoned Julian. They wanted to know whether he was still breathing.

Sienna was still going. “You can talk all day, Nora, and none of it saves Julian.

“Olivia has the antidote. So apologize, take the slaps, and let her save him.”

Olivia took a small glass vial out of her case and held it out. “Never mind all that. I’m not going to fight you over it, Nora. Take it and get the poison out of Jules.

“I’m not asking for anything. I only want Jules to be all right.”

Sienna snatched the vial out of her hand. “So she hits you whenever she feels like it and doesn’t even have to apologize?

“If she wants the medicine, fine, skip the apology. But that slap is coming back to her.”

Sienna’s hand came up and swung hard at Nora’s face.

This time it never landed. A hand closed around her wrist and stopped it cold.

She followed the arm up, saw Julian, and her face changed. “Jul—”

His palm cracked across her cheek and knocked her head sideways.

Julian didn’t raise his voice. “You disrespected my wife. No dividend for you this year, and your cards are

canceled.”

Sienna didn’t accept a word of it, but she was afraid of Julian, so she pushed out her lip and dropped her head.

“Apologize to her,” he said.

Sienna kept her head down. “I’m sorry, Nora. I was wrong!

Nora took an antiseptic wipe from Hattie and cleaned Julian’s hand with it, taking her time about it.

Nora was gracious. “It’s fine. Next time use your head before you talk, and keep your hands to yourself. Cleaning up afterward is a nuisance.”

Sienna nearly choked on it. She thinks I’m dirty enough to need disinfecting.

Olivia looked at him standing there unharmed, happy and confused at once. “Jules, you’re all right?”

Constance came toward him and looked him over, delighted. “Are you all right? Is it out of you?”

Julian had changed clothes. His color was still bad, but next to the state he had been in an hour ago, coughing up blood and out cold, this was somebody else entirely.

Mandy stared at him standing tall with color coming back into his face. “You’re fine? Weren’t you supposed to be in an ambulance? Weren’t you supposed to be unconscious, and then-”

Constance cut her off, cold. “Watch your mouth, Mandy.”

She would have been thrown out on the spot if she weren’t Nora’s sister.

Nora gave her a flat look. “It’s my wedding day. You couldn’t manage a congratulations, and now you’re standing here wishing my husband dead. Don’t blame me for what comes next.

“Somebody get her out of here.”

With Mandy she had no soft spot at all.

Two big security men moved in and took her under the arms, one on each side.

Mandy started screaming. “Get off me! Nora, I’m your sister. You can’t do this to me.

“I was defending you a minute ago. Let go of me. I’ll walk out on my own!”

The harder she fought, the less gentle they got. A third one came over, and the three of them hauled her out by the arms and legs and dumped her on the ground outside the iron gate.

“My bag! My phone!” she yelled.

The bag had come off her shoulder while she was struggling, and one of them picked it up and threw it out after her.

The phone slid out, hit the ground, and the screen went to pieces.

Mandy had no phone, no cash, and no car of her own. One look at the size of that estate and she understood she was walking out.

She stamped her foot and screamed at the gate. “You wait, Nora!”

Back in the ballroom, Nora looked around at the guests with the corner of her mouth lifting. “You all saw that. I don’t go easy on my own sister.

“So the next time any of you think about coming at me, remember what I’m like.”

Nora had slapped a Blithe in front of the entire room. Nobody in it was above the same treatment.

Olivia was still working on Julian. “Jules, are you really all right? Is anything hurting? I’ve been so worried. Let me look at you.”

She reached for his hand to take his pulse.

Olivia’s fingers had barely moved before Nora caught her wrist, smiling at her. “Keep your hands off my husband, Ms. Blithe. I’d only have to clean him off again.”

Olivia went white. “I only wanted to check Jules’s pulse. There’s nothing behind it. Please don’t take it the wrong way.”

Nora arched a brow. “He’s in good health. He doesn’t need you checking anything, not now and not later.

“Remember this much, Ms. Blithe. He is my lawful husband. Don’t touch him.”

Olivia turned to him, wounded. “Jules, I—”

Juan looked down at the small tyrant planted in front of him staking her claim, and a laugh came out of him. “Do as she says. I’d rather not create a misunderstanding either.”

One second he was smiling at Nora like she hung the moon, and the next he was looking at Olivia with nothing in his face and a voice to match.

Olivia’s hands closed into fists. “Did Gideon treat you? Was it blackroot after all? Did he explain any of it?”

Nora scoffed. “Gideon is a hack. He couldn’t clear poison out of a glass of water.”

She looked at Olivia. “After all of that, you’re still dragging it back to blackroot so you can throw dirt on me. If I were you, I’d be smart and keep my mouth shut.

“Or at the very least, find an excuse and run, the way your grandmother did.”

Olivia’s temper snapped. “She didn’t run. She went to save a patient’s life.”

Gaff Dalton came down from upstairs and stopped beside Nora. “Mrs. Weston.”

Nora put out a hand, and he laid a few sheets of paper in it.
