Chapter 231 Mistaken for Someone Else
Nora pressed her lips together and made her voice as soft as she could.
“Ma’am?” she called up. “Are you trying to catch the kitty?”

Augusta was still crawling along the branch when she licard that soft, sweet voice. It melted her heart, and for a moment, she was lost in a daze. It felt like her own granddaughter was calling to her.
She looked down at Nora, and her eyes lit up. “Tilly!”
Nora blinked. Tilly? Is she talking to me?
Augusta was beside herself. “Tilly, I finally found you! Don’t be scared. Don’t go anywhere! Grandma’s gonna catch the kitty for you. Don’t leave, okay? I’ll be right down!”
Nora watched in horror as Augusta, in her excitement, let go with her hands and tried to scoot even faster toward the end of the branch.
The thin branch swayed even harder. One wrong move, and she’d fall.
Nora tensed up. “Ma’am, stop! Don’t go any farther. I’m not going anywhere. Come down first, and I’ll catch the kitty for you.”
Augusta got anxious. “No, I have to get the kitty. Your mommy loves kitties, and I lost it. Be a good girl and wait. I’ve almost got it.”
The branch kept swaying, and the kitten mewed shrilly. Worse, the branch couldn’t hold Augusta’s weight. It was starting to crack in the middle.
Nora figured she’d been mistaken for someone else. The way Augusta talked, she was treating Nora like a little kid. She had to have dementia.
So Nora decided to coax her with a little threat mixed in. “Ma’am, come down first, and I’ll get the kitty for you. If you don’t come down, I’m leaving, okay?”
She didn’t dare threaten anything harsher than that. If Augusta panicked, it could backfire.
Sure enough, that got Augusta worried. She stopped crawling and looked down at Nora. “You’re not mad I lost the kitty? You’ll really catch it for me?”
Nora nodded hard. “You’re the sweetest. Why would I be mad at you? Of course I’ll catch the kitty.”
Augusta looked at Nora, then at the kitten, and broke into a smile so big her whole face crinkled. “Okay. I’ll listen to Tilly.”
Nora kept her eyes glued to Augusta, ready to catch her if she fell.
But once Augusta made it back along the branch, she scrambled down the trunk like a pro. When she was about a foot and a half off the ground, she just let go and hopped down.
She stood in front of Nora, beaming, and took her hands. “Tilly, I’m down. Now you can never leave Grandma again.”

Chapter 231 Mistaken for Someone Else
Nora stared at Augusta, white hair and all, nimble as a cat, and didn’t know what to say.

If weren’t for all those wrinkles, Nora would’ve sworn the silver hair was dyed and she was actually a teenager in disguise. All that worrying had been for nothing!
“Let go of me for a second,” Nora said. “I’ll get the kitten down.”
Augusta might be surprisingly agile, but Nura wasn’t about to let her take any more chances. At her age ond accident could be the end of her.
Nora climbed up and brought the kitten down.
The kitten’s fur was still puffed up from the scare, but it was sweet as could be in her arms. It even licked her hand, and Nora just about melted.
She handed the kitten to Augusta, reluctant to let it go. “Here’s your kitty, ma’am. Hold on tight. Next time it gets stuck in a tree, ask someone from the hotel staff to get it down. Please don’t climb trees anymore.”
Augusta looked at her. “Tilly’s so clever. From now on, your name is Tilly.”
Nora tried to explain. “My name isn’t Tilly. Which room are you staying in? I’ll have someone take you back. Or you could call your family to come get you.”
Augusta had been gazing at her happily, stroking the kitten’s fur.
But when she heard that, she nearly burst into tears. She clung to Nora’s hand. “Tilly, don’t go. I’m not going
home.”
Then, all of a sudden, she let go, wrapped her arms over her head, and crouched down on the ground, shaking. “Don’t hit me! I… I’m not going home. I’m not! Don’t hit me, you bastards! I’m scared!”
Nora froze at the sight. Is she having some kind of panic attack?
She hurried to help Augusta up. “Don’t be scared. Nobody’s going to hit you.”
Augusta grabbed her hand and got to her feet, then hid behind her, trembling and clutching the hem of Nora’s shirt. “Not going home. Nobody’s there. Don’t hit me.”
Nora asked her several times what was wrong, but Augusta wouldn’t say. She just kept shaking behind Nora, begging not to be hit, saying she was scared.
“Tell you what,” Nora said with a frown. “I’ll call the police and have them take you to the station. They’ll set your family straight, and nobody will hit you again.”
She figured Augusta had dementia, and her family must have gotten fed up and started hitting her.
But in Augusta’s mind, she was a little girl again, back when cruel men had caught her and beaten her, trying to make her lead them home so they could round up her family.
So the mention of the police only scared her more, and she shook her head frantically. “No! I won’t go!”
She clung to Nora’s shirt. “Grandma’s going home with Tilly. You’re my sweet grandbaby.”
