“id it for you,” Mandy sobbed. “I wanted to find the healer to treat your mom. Who knew—”
Before she could finish, Adrian cut her off with a low growl. “Mandy, who told you to go behind my back and do things for me? My mom isn’t sick!”
Mandy was stunned. She had no idea why he was yelling at her. She just stared at the fury on his face and the vicious look in his eyes.
It scared her. “Ace, I… I just wanted to help you.”
But Evelyn really was sick. Back in her previous life, it had been Nora who found a doctor to treat Evelyn. After that, Evelyn had doted on Nora like her own daughter, and that was probably one reason Adrian had spoiled Nora so much too.
So why is it different when I do it? Mandy couldn’t understand it.
Adrian looked at her coldly. He opened his mouth to say something, but in the end, he forced his anger down. “From now on, talk to me before you do anything. Don’t just go off on your own. My mom is fine. If she ever gets sick, I’ll take her to the hospital myself. You should go home.”
He knew this wasn’t Mandy’s fault. She was too kind, and she didn’t know the truth. And the truth was, he didn’t want his mother cured at all!
Every extra year Evelyn lived meant another year of living in her shadow and under her control. And now Mandy was trying to drag it out even longer.
If Adrian hadn’t known that Mandy was clueless about his family, about the darkness he’d grown up with, and that she’d only been trying to help, he would’ve wanted to strangle her!
Mandy watched him storm off, confused and hurt.
She didn’t get it. She’d humiliated herself working as a greeter just to find a healer for Evelyn, and he’d yelled at her for it! Since she couldn’t make sense of it, she blamed it all on Nora,
Mandy ground her teeth with hatred. “Nora must be scared Julian’s going to die, so she’s going after Ace too, She wants a backup plan. That bitch!
“Nora’s finally in police custody. I’ve got to make the most of it. Even if they can’t pin anything on her, I’ll make sure she doesn’t walk out of there in one piece!”
Paige nudged her arm. “Mandy, what are you muttering about? Dr. Blithe’s about to leave. Didn’t you want to ask her for help? Go, hurry!”
Mandy snapped out of it. “Dr. Blithe!”
Cordelia smiled warmly at her. “Hello there. You’re Nora’s sister, aren’t you? What can I do for you?”
Mandy frowned. She instinctively hated being called Nora’s sister. She wanted to ask for medical help, but she remembered how Adrian had reacted.
So she didn’t dare. Instead, she gave Cordelia an apologetic look. “Dr. Blithe, I’m so sorry. My sister can be

far as Mandy was concerned, Cordelia might come in handy someday, so it couldn’t hurt to put on a good show.
Cordelia smiled. “That’s all right. You’re a wonderful sister. Come visit us sometime. And if you need any help with your sister’s situation, you can come to me. I have to get going.”
Mandy snorted. She had no intention of helping Nora. She was going to use this chance to kick Nora while/ she was down.
She thought for a moment, then hurried out of the conference hall, found an empty corner, and called Yvette. “Mom, I called the cops, and they took Nora in for questioning. Do you know anyone who can make her suffer in there? I want her coming out in pieces.”

Two hours later, Julian was in the middle of his meeting. “If you partner with us, we’ll provide every resource we can to move forward with—”
“Julian!” Before he could finish, the doors flew open, and Wren burst in, disheveled and out of breath.
A server rushed in after her, close to tears. “I’m so sorry. We couldn’t stop her.”
The moment Miles saw Wren, he had a bad feeling. He signaled the server to get her out of there.
As the server pulled her toward the door, Wren shouted, “Julian, you have to help Nora! The police took her, and nobody’s heard anything since!”
Julian shot to his feet and frowned at her. “What happened to Nora? Why did the police take her?”
Wren was panting. “I don’t know. I couldn’t find her, so I called around, and that’s how I found out. There has to be some kind of mistake.”
Julian turned a cold look on Miles. “What’s going on? Didn’t Nora go home when her conference ended?”
His meeting had taken a break partway through, and during it, he’d gone next door to look for Nora. But the staff there had told him the conference was already over.
Miles tried to remind him, “Sir, the meeting wraps up in half an hour. It’s really important. It’s an overseas investment deal, and it’s also-”
Julian cut him off coldly. “What happened?”
A chill went through Miles. Julian was truly angry now, and he didn’t dare keep it from him any longer. “One of Mrs. Weston’s old classmates accused her of bribing a nurse to give her abortion pills.
“Then, Mandy called the police, and they took Mrs. Weston in on suspicion of assault.
