Chapter 272 Six Hours on the Table
Bess glanced at Olivia then took Nora’s phone over to the reporters so they could scan it.
Olivia read it over Sienna’s shoulder.
It was security footage from outside the operating room, and the time stamp was clear as day.
Finished
The surgery had started an hour before Julian’s attack, and it had now been more than seven hours since he collapsed.
The heart patient’s medical record was there too, and it said pacemaker implant.
Olivia didn’t need to read the patient’s account after that. She looked at Cordelia, hurt and in disbelief. “Grandma…”
Nora raised an eyebrow at her. “Ms. Blithe, you’re a well-known doctor yourself now. You’ve seen what time your grandmother went into the OR, and you’ve seen the patient’s records. Anything you’d like to say?”
Olivia didn’t dare say a word. The truth would ruin Cordelia.
Cordelia looked at Nora. Nora was still wearing a surgical mask, but she looked completely sure of herself.
Nora had everything under control. Any excuse Cordelia came up with would only make her look like a clown.
Cordelia glanced at Simon. He was the Caduceus Order’s steward, and he treated Nora with the utmost respect. Even Amos had a soft spot for her, enough to hand over the Lazarus pills and the special medication.
With people like that behind her, Nora could dig up anything she wanted. Cordelia had lost this round.
There was no point making excuses. She closed her eyes for a moment. “Olivia, tell them the truth.”
She’d lost, but she had to protect Olivia. That way, she’d still have another shot later.
One look at Cordelia’s face, and Olivia understood. She was shocked and heartbroken, and she couldn’t believe it. She didn’t want to say it, but she had no choice.
“Grandma went into the OR around 3:00 this afternoon. It was a pacemaker implant. Normally, it takes…”
Olivia couldn’t bring herself to finish. She couldn’t look anyone in the eye, so she kept her head down and went on in a muffled voice. “It only takes 30 minutes. That was right around when Julian had his attack
“By the time Julian got to the ER, the pacemaker surgery was already over.”
Then, she looked up, fighting back tears, and asked Cordelia in anguish, “Grandma, why would you do this?”
Nora raised an eyebrow. “You heard her. Cordelia’s own granddaughter just told you. When Julian needed her, her heart surgery was already done.

“But just to make me beg, she stayed in that operating room for five or six hours! It’s cold in there. That patient had just had surgery, and he was left lying on the table. Can you imagine how scared he must have
been?
“Dr. Blithe told everyone she couldn’t stop a surgery halfway just to save a rich tnan, but she’d leave a patient lying on the operating table for her own gain. So much for her high morals.”
The people who’d been so outraged with Nora a minute ago fell silent. Then, they turned on Cordelia.
“I had minor surgery once, and just lying on that table scared me to death. I can’t imagine being stuck there for six or seven hours. He must’ve felt so helpless.”
“I really thought Dr. Blithe was looking out for regular people like us. Turns out we’re just pawns in her game too. That’s so messed up. Someone that selfish doesn’t deserve to be called the Master.”
“She’s a disgrace to that title. It’s disgusting!”
“And she had the nerve to act all gracious and forgiving. Turns out she just had a guilty conscience.”
“She used her own patient, and then she used us to fight her battles for her!”
The criticism kept coming. A moment ago, everyone had thought Nora didn’t care about ordinary people’s lives. Now, they were even angrier, because they were the ones who’d been played all along.
And if Cordelia was willing to hold Julian’s life over the richest family in the city, she’d be even more ruthless with ordinary people like them. So the crowd turned on her even harder.
Olivia watched everyone tear into Cordelia. They looked ready to spit on her. She rushed to explain. “My grandma had her reasons. She didn’t mean it.”
Nora scoffed again. “And did she have her reasons for having Julian’s test results altered too?”
Olivia had been pushed to the edge again and again today and she couldn’t take any more. When she heard that, she raised her voice. “That was a mistake by whoever printed the report. Why is that my grandma’s fault too?
“And who says the numbers were wrong? You didn’t even finish high school. You think you can read complicated lab values?”
Nora raised an eyebrow. “Gideon can. Why don’t you ask him?” She tilted her head slightly and looked toward an empty corner. “Gideon, how long are you going to hide?”
Everyone turned to look where she was looking. The corner was empty and silent.
But a moment later, a black dress shoe came into view, followed by the edge of a white coat.
Then, Gideon slowly stepped out of the corner, holding a stack of
