Chapter 283 Julian Wakes Up

In her previous life, the Westons had never landed this deal, and Adrian hadn’t gotten it this fast either. It had taken six more months and Nora was the one who’d finally sealed i She knew exactly how important
it was.
A deal that could open up the international market was the last thing she’d let Mandy steal to make Adrian stronger. It had been hers to close in the first place, and she was taking it back!
Constance knew how important it was, of course, but saying so in a situation like this would only hurt Nora. She was worried sick. “Nora…”
Nora just smiled and looked up at Harlan. “So what will it take for you to give me a shot at this deal? Let’s not waste any more time arguing.”
Harlan figured that since the Pierce Group had already signed, the foreign partners wouldn’t break the contract. They took their word too seriously for that. Nora didn’t stand a chance of closing the deal. She was just talking big to stall until Julian woke up.
And if Julian did wake up, at least giving Nora a chance would let everyone save face.
Harlan didn’t hold back. “I’m only thinking of the company and the family. If you can close the international deal, Nora, we’ll drop the whole thing, and Julian stays CEO.
“But if you can’t, the company takes a huge loss. Like you said, the Westons lose their spot at the top, and you and Julian should pay for that and make it right.
“So if you can’t close the deal, you talk Julian into resigning and giving up his place as heir, and the three of you move out of the main house. I won’t even take the heir’s spot myself. My son, Theo, will be the heir and run the company. Deal?”
Nora nodded without objection. “Fine.”
“Nora!” Constance called anxiously.
Nora gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s okay, Grandma. I can do this.”
Then, she turned back to Harlan. “And what if I do close it? You can’t take everything if I lose and then walk away clean if I win.
“Where’s the fun in that? A man with your ambitions should know to leave himself a way out.”
Harlan didn’t believe for a second that Nora could pull it off, so he didn’t hesitate. “If you close the deal, my whole side of the family will move off the Weston estate, and I’ll step down from my position at the company. Happy?”
Nora raised an eyebrow and glanced over at the board members. “What about them?”
Roger and the others didn’t say a word. They all looked at Harlan.
Harlan made the call for them. “If you close it, each of them will give you a 1% stake in the company. Me included.”

He was completely sure Nora couldn’t close this deal anyway.
Nora counted. “One, two, three, four, five, six. So that’s 6% of the shares for me. Sure, sounds good. It’s a deal.”
Harlan warned her, “You’d better think this through. If you fail, Theo becomes the Weston heir, the company gets a new CEO, and you all move out of the main house! And Mother doesn’t get to object either. When Julian wakes up, you can explain it to him yourself. Don’t come blaming me.”
Harlan had barely finished when Julian spoke up from the hospital bed, his voice weak but icy.
“If you’re so worried about me getting angry and blaming you, Uncle Harlan, you should’ve waited until I woke up and asked me.”
That one cold sentence made Harlan and the board members flinch. They spun around to look at Julian. When they saw him awake and slowly sitting up, they looked like they’d seen a ghost.
Nora looked up at Julian too. His eyes were open, and he was sitting right there, alive and well. She smiled at him. “Good morning, Mr. Weston.”
She’d known he would wake up. He’d only been sleeping, so a simple good morning was all she needed to
say.
Julian looked at Nora and smiled back, his icy voice softening. “Good morning, Mrs. Weston.”
The smile they shared was warmer and brighter than the sunlight streaming through the window.
When Constance saw that Julian was awake, she stumbled forward, overcome. “Julian, you’re finally awake! Does anything hurt?”
She was crying tears of joy, and the joy alone seemed to steady her on her feet.
Nora hurried to help her over to the bed.
Julian reassured her. “Grandma, I’m fine. Nothing hurts. Let me have a word with Uncle Harlan and the others first.”
Constance nodded again and again. “Yes, yes. You’re Nora’s husband. Now that you’re awake, it’s time you stood up for her.”
Nora poured Julian a glass of water. “This happened because of me. I can fix it.”
She didn’t want to drag him into more trouble. She wanted to clean up her own mess.
Harlan was still afraid of Julian, and he rushed to explain. “Julian, I’m not trying to make things hard for your wife. She’s the one who came up with these terms.”
Julian just glanced up at him coolly. “Oh? Was it also my wife’s idea for you to bring the board here while I was unconscious? To back her into a corner until she made that offer, just so you’d give her a chance?”
Harlan and the board members broke out in a cold sweat.
