Chapter 285 Not That Kind of Hungry

Nora sat up straight, her face bright red, and tried her best to sound serious. “I was just checking the whites of his eyes and his color to see how he’s recovering.”
Julian had collapsed in her bed and been rushed to the hospital from there. He’d barely woken up, and now someone had caught them about to kiss. It made her look like she couldn’t keep her hands off him. It was so awkward and so embarrassing!
Julian nodded with a straight face. “That’s right. That’s all it was.” He couldn’t let anyone get the wrong idea
about her.
Bess was embarrassed too, but she acted like she hadn’t seen a thing. She set an insulated food container on the nightstand. “The chef at home made you a healthy breakfast, Mr. Weston. You need your strength, so try to eat as much as you can. I’ll head back with your grandmother now.”
When Constance hustled her out of the room, Bess had taken the breakfast with her by mistake. She’d only noticed partway down the hall and turned back.
She never would’ve guessed she’d walk in on something like that. Julian had always been so cool and indifferent toward women. She’d never once seen him that eager, as if he didn’t care what it might cost him.
Bess went out and thoughtfully shut the door behind her.
Julian looked straight at Nora again. “Sweetheart, I’m hungry.” His voice was even huskier and more tempting than before.
Nora’s face went red, and she glared at him. “You just woke up. Don’t even think about it. Besides, your body really can’t handle sex right now!”
After what had happened, she’d realized that since Olivia had started treating him, his body could handle sex even less than before. Worst case, it could set off another attack like this one.
She didn’t know whether it was a side effect of the medication or something Olivia had done on purpose.
Julian looked at her, then pointed at the food container on the table. “Sweetheart, I meant I’m hungry for breakfast.”
Nora’s face got even redder. Now, she was the one who looked desperate. She glared at Julian and turned her head away. “Then starve.”
Julian gave in, helpless and fond. “Okay, I take it back. It’s not breakfast I’m hungry for.”
Nora poured the oatmeal into a bowl, scooped up a spoonful, and tasted it to check the temperature. It was just right,
She looked up and met his eyes. He was staring at her with a heat that wrapped all the way around her, like it might melt her right where she sat.
The heat in that look got to her, and she found herself speaking more softly. “I’ll feed you breakfast, and then I’ll go talk to them about the deal.”

Julian looked down at the spoon she held out to him. To him, frer fingers looked more tempting than anything on that spoon.
She was going to feed him. She’d changed so much toward him since before his attack. She didn’t mind being close to him anymore.
Last night, he’d been aware for a little while. He’d felt Nora kissing the corner of his mouth and hugging him around the waist. Having her there beside him had made him want to live more than anything.
I have to live. For her, and for Grandma! Julian swore to himself.
But he didn’t know how much longer his body could hold out.
Nora held the spoon in front of him for a long time, but he didn’t open his mouth. He just stared silently at her hand.
That worried her. “What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Let me check you over.” She started to set down the bowl so she could check his pulse.
“No, I’m fine.” Julian took the bowl from her and looked up. “I can feed myself.”
Nora gave him a suspicious look. Something about him seemed a little different.
As Julian ate his oatmeal, he could feel her studying him. He pointed at the food container. “You should eat too. You’ve got a deal to close after this, and you only have one day. Uncle Harlan’s definitely going to get in your way.
“Anyway, it’s not like I broke my arms and legs. You don’t have to baby me.”
Nora really was hungry. They’d hauled her off right before noon yesterday and locked her up in that place without even letting her out to use the bathroom. Even if they’d offered her a five-star feast, she wouldn’t have dared to eat or drink a thing. All told, she hadn’t eaten in almost a whole day.
Time was short for closing the deal, too, so she didn’t think too much about it. “Okay.”
They talked while they ate.
Julian asked her, “While I was out, I could’ve sworn I heard you were the one who saved me.”
“Yeah,” Nora said. “Your attack wasn’t an accident. Someone set it up. Cordelia and Olivia were both too busy, so I gave it a shot.”
She kept it short. He’d look into it and ask around himself anyway, and he’d end up knowing more than she did.
Julian scooped up some oatmeal. “So how am I doing? From now on, can I stop having Olivia treat me?
Can
you cure me yourself?”
His voice was still a little hoarse and low, and it made the question sound heavy.
Nora paused with her spoon halfway to her mouth. Then, she answered, “Yes. I can.”
