Reborn to Dodge the Bad Marriage novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73 Double the Pay

Then Cordelia added, “She probably read about it somewhere. We mention it in the public classes.”

“But Grandma, when she asked me, she looked at me like I was the joke. Like she already knows the Thirteen Gates.”

Olivia was reading far too much into it. Nora had only asked because the whole thing struck her as strange and she wanted to be sure.

The rest of it came out of her own nerves.

Cordelia didn’t take it seriously at all, and her laugh came out cold. “The Thirteen Gates is even more absurd. If that girl could work it, I’d be calling her my teacher.”

Cordelia had only ever heard of the Thirteen Gates herself. She had never seen it performed.

It also called for a particular set of silver needles, and she had never laid eyes on those either.

A girl barely into her twenties working the Thirteen Gates was the funniest thing she had heard in years.

“Grandma…”

Cordelia cut her off, impatient. “Enough. Is one Nora Sinclair really worth this much panic?

“Stop thinking about her. Treat Julian and do it properly. Leave the rest to me.”

Olivia hung up and looked at the photograph on the shelf, and it still stung.

Constance had always been fond of her and had said more than once that she wanted her in the family.

She had wanted Julian for years and had always assumed the two of them would end up married.

How did Nora get in front of me?

She wasn’t giving him up.

The next morning, Nora went into the office as usual, and Chloe met her on her floor with the day’s schedule.

Then Bridget Pike came in with a proposal in her hands. “Miss Sinclair, I’ve reworked the development plans for the talent we already have. Would you look it over and tell me if it holds up?”

Nora took it and pointed at the chair across from her. “Sit. I’ll read it now.”

Bridget sat down and watched her the whole time, nerves showing.

She had spent too many years at home and had been out of the working world too long. One company after another had turned her down for being behind the times.

So she had put everything she had into this proposal, and all she wanted was for Nora to approve it.

Nora skimmed it first and found fresh recommendations for Wolf Bait and Sabrina.

Firusted

When she finished, she looked up with real interest. “Walk me through it. Where do you take them from here, and what kind of streamers do you want to sign?”

Bridget answered fast. “WolfBait can’t sell on his looks, but he’s genuinely funny. If we script short videos around that, his following grows quickly, and his livestream sales go up with it…”

They spent the whole morning working out where WolfBait and Sabrina should go next.

Bridget was good at this. Every problem she raised cut straight to the bone, and her plans weren’t theory. There was real upside in them.

Nora nodded at the end of it. “Do it your way. Rebuild their schedules. There’s one other thing.”

Bridget had barely finished being happy about the approval when those last words pulled her stomach tight. “Is there a problem, Miss Sinclair?”

Nora saw how tense she was and laughed. “Relax. I was going to ask whether you want a second job and double the pay.”

Bridget wanted it badly, and that was the trouble. “Is there another position here I’m actually qualified for?”

She ran through the list in her head and came up with nothing.

“There is,” Nora said. “I want to sign you as a creator.”

“Me?” Bridget shook her head right away. “Miss Sinclair, I couldn’t. Look at me. At my age? Nobody wants to

watch that.”

“Don’t write yourself off so fast. Your plan for picking streamers is sharp, but you left yourself out of it, and you fit it perfectly.

“You gained weight carrying your kids. Ten years at home wore you down until you stopped recognizing yourself. Then your husband cheated, and now you’re negotiating a divorce over custody.

“That’s more conflict than most people build a whole channel out of, and every bit of it is real. You could absolutely do this.”

She could lose the weight, she could transform, and she could take her cheating husband apart on camera.

None of it needed a script. It was all true, which made people care, and caring was what made a channel work.

Creators built on a script got exposed and canceled sooner or later.

Bridget was an agent and she had studied the market, so the moment Nora laid it out she understood how well it could work.

It clicked all at once. “You’re right. I can do this! I’ll work for it, and I won’t waste the chance you’re giving me.”

Nora smiled at her. “I like that you didn’t just stay in a bad marriage for the kids. Don’t let him off cheap
