Christian stood still before Annie, taking in the way her ears flushed pink. The corners of his lips couldn't help but lift into a smile.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet ring box before slowly opening it.
A massive diamond ring lay quietly inside. Under the lights, it refracted a brilliance far more dazzling than the scattered diamonds on her wedding gown.
Annie's eyes widened, and she stood frozen in place. "I can't accept that," she murmured, instinctively taking a step back and waving her hands in refusal.
Christian's smile deepened. He reached out and gently took her hand before saying in a low, soothing voice filled with reassurance. "Relax, dear. It's fake. We need props, don't we?"
Annie shot him a doubtful look, then glanced at the "fake" ring that looked anything but. The cut and clarity… None of it screamed imitation.
But he was right. He was just a manager who made about 100 thousand dollars a month, so how could he possibly afford the real thing? She figured that this was probably one of those hyper-realistic replicas.
The thought seemed to ease the uneasiness in her chest slightly. So, she stopped resisting and let him slide the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly.
Annie ultimately accepted it.
Not far away, Elise stood rooted to the spot and hardly dared to breathe. She kept her head lowered, but her peripheral vision never left the ring. Her mind was reeling.
If she remembered correctly, that ring had appeared at a top-tier auction in Arboria, named "Eternal Heart".
It had been bought by a mysterious bidder for the astronomical price of 30 million dollars, and now, it turned out that Christian was that mysterious bidder. And here he was, casually telling Annie that this 30-million-dollar ring was fake.
After they stepped out of the store, the sunlight was somewhat harsh. Annie stopped walking and tugged gently at Christian's sleeve.
"Wasn't that too expensive?" she asked, looking up at him. A trace of disapproval flickered in her eyes. She continued, "It's just for a show, so we don't need something that pricey. Should we… pick a different gown?"
She knew that he was just a manager making approximately 100 thousand dollars a year, and 20 thousand dollars was more than two months of his salary. She didn't want him to be so financially burdened for her sake.
Noticing her concerned expression, Christian's heart softened. He stropped, turned to face her fully, and let his gentle gaze settle on her.
In the sunlight, her fair skin seemed almost translucent. There was unmistakable worry in her eyes.
He couldn't help but laugh. "You're worth every penny, dear."
