Christian and Annie rushed to Jynston General Hospital. Annie's mind was blank, her ears ringing the entire ride there.
How could this be happening? There was just no way.
She went back and forth in her mind, trying to reassure herself.
Before delivering the gown, she had personally checked every single detail meticulously.
There was absolutely no way the gown could be at fault, so how did Maeve suddenly suffer an allergic reaction that put her in critical condition?
The red light outside the emergency room glared ominously.
The pale Amelia paced anxiously by the door, her usual calm and collected demeanor nowhere to be seen.
"Kay!"
As a hoarse and frantic voice came from the end of the corridor, a tall foreign man stumbled toward them. It was Maeve's boyfriend, Nicholas Warner.
Upon seeing him, Amelia quickly stepped forward to support him. "Mr. Warner, please calm down. The doctors are still inside."
Nicholas grabbed Amelia's arm. His eyes were bloodshot, and he was shaking all over. He questioned, "How could this happen? Why did she suddenly get an allergic reaction?"
Amelia unconsciously glanced toward Annie and Christian, who had just arrived.
With a complicated expression, she finally spoke with difficulty. "According to the preliminary test, it seems that there was… almond powder on the gown."
Almond powder…
Annie's mind cleared in an instant, as if she'd just been plunged into an ice-cold pit. That wasn't possible.
"Ms. Brown, I swear that after you told me how serious Ms. Monroe's nut allergy is, we took every precaution at every step. We even cleaned the studio thoroughly and had the gown dry-cleaned to make sure nothing harmful remained!" she protested, her voice quivering with emotion.
Nicholas fixed his bloodshot eyes on her. He seemed to recall something right then.
A moment later, Nicholas snapped his head up and jabbed a finger at Christian.
"I don't care how powerful Parker Group is. If anything happens to Kay or the baby, I will make sure you're embroiled in lawsuits and tied up in court for as long as possible!"
No sooner had he spoken than the nurses wheeled Maeve's gurney out of the emergency room to move her to a ward.
With her eyes shut tight and her face pale, she lay motionless, hooked up to a tangle of tubes.
"Kay…"
Tears instantly welled up in Nicholas' eyes as he staggered after the gurney.
Amelia glanced at Christian's stern face, then at Annie behind him, whose expression was grim. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
In the end, she merely sighed and hurried after Maeve.
