Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 115

Annie suddenly recalled her previous visit to the hospital to take Maeve's measurements. Amelia had repeatedly stressed that Maeve was severely allergic to nuts back then.

Annie could have sworn that she caught a glimpse of a bald head disappearing from view out of the corner of her eye as she left the ward that day.

At the time, she had deliberately looked that way again, but the corridor was empty.

She thought she was just seeing this before, but now…

Without a second thought, Annie pushed through the crowd to pursue the figure.

"Excuse me! Please let me through!"

The figure ahead hurried away. With how slender they looked, they didn't seem like a man.

Alas, there were just too many people in the hospital. By the time Annie finally squeezed through the throng and rounded a corner, the figure had vanished without a single trace.

Unwilling to give up, Annie searched the nearby area, but still found nothing.

Out of breath, she steadied herself against the wall before heading toward the nearby nurses' station. She said, "Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but did you happen to see a bald patient come through? A woman, maybe?"

The nurse was in the middle of organizing some charts when she heard that. She looked up at Annie, a slight frown on her face. "A bald patient? There's been plenty."

The nurse pointed upstairs. "The upper floors house the cardiothoracic and hematology departments. Many patients lose all their hair from chemotherapy."

Annie froze for a moment. Indeed, they were at a hospital.

How could she have forgotten that? And where would she even begin to find that person?

Trying to track someone down in a sea of people with only a vague outline to go on—and not even knowing their gender—was like chasing smoke.

Moreover, she had no proof that the person was even involved. She only had a vague hunch.

Annie's shoulders slumped, and a heavy feeling settled in her chest.

Sighing, she went to the door of Maeve's ward.

Taking a deep breath to compose herself, she pushed the door open, only to hear a stifled sob coming from inside.

A woman in a janitor uniform was on her knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

When Maeve's pregnancy news was leaked, Christian showed up at the studio in person.

On the surface, it looked like he was there with a new project to smooth things over, but anyone with eyes could tell he was looking out for Annie.

And just a moment ago, outside the emergency room, the heartbreak in his gaze was obvious.

They were clearly more than just ordinary acquaintances.

Christian had never been rumored to have a girlfriend or spouse, so their relationship was likely a secret, still hidden from the public.

Amelia couldn't blow their cover now, and she certainly couldn't let Nicholas act impulsively and offend Christian.

Annie wrenched her hand free from Nicholas' grasp, not even glancing at his fury. Her gaze stayed locked on the trembling Lillian on the floor.

She asked, "I don't even know you, so why are you trying to pin this on me?"

She paused for a second before adding, "More importantly, why would I want to harm Ms. Monroe?"
