"Alright, spill it. How far have things gotten with Uncle Chris?" Suzanna asked.
Annie's hand froze over her sketchbook.
Christian's cool face flashed through her mind, making her heart skip a beat.
Annie dodged Suzanna's curious stare and lowered her head, pretending to straighten the stack of drafts on the desk. "What do you mean by that? We... We..."
She fumbled for words and couldn't get a full sentence out. She finally grabbed onto an excuse. "We should focus on work. Leave private matters aside."
To Suzanna, that evasiveness made it clear that something was going on between them.
Her curiosity burned brighter than before. Suzanna came around the desk, grabbed Annie's arm, and stared at her with sparkling eyes.
"Look at that. Your whole face is red, and you still claim that nothing is going on? Come on, did you two already..."
She arched a brow, as if she were silently asking whether they had already crossed every line.
So, Christian had finally made a move and won Annie over?
Things were moving much faster than she had imagined.
Annie felt her scalp tingle under that stare, and her cheeks flushed even hotter.
She reached out and clapped a hand over Suzanna's chattering mouth. "Stop talking nonsense! I... I need to get back to work! I'll finish the design as soon as I can! Dinner's on me tonight. We'll talk then!"
She tossed that out in a rush, scooped up her things, and bolted.
The office door slammed shut behind her with a loud thud.
Suzanna looked at the closed door and slowly lowered her hand.
Running away like that? Could she be any more obvious?
In Suzanna's head, a complete drama started playing out. She wondered if she would become an aunt next year. But then, she thought that it made her sound way too old.
She looked at Suzanna's bright, expectant eyes and knew that there was no escaping her that night.
"No... Nothing's going on," she said, her voice softer than she liked. "We just have a normal professional relationship."
Even she could hear how flimsy that sounded.
Suzanna curled her lip. "A professional relationship? If this is just work, why is your face so red?"
She reached out and poked Annie's flushed cheek. "Tell me the truth! Actually... Uncle Chris is a really good man. If you two really did get together, that would be nice."
A thought suddenly popped into her head, and a sly grin spread across her face.
"Uncle Chris is handsome and in great shape. You're both living under the same roof. Don't tell me that you've never thought about anything else."
Annie's face instantly flushed. "What are you even talking about?"
She was about to argue when a familiar figure caught her eye. Her smile froze instantly.
