Sean had just changed his clothes and was heading downstairs for a glass of water when his phone rang. It was a nurse who called.
"Mr. Frost, something's wrong! Ms. Lambert—"
Her voice trembled with panic, and his chest tightened instantly.
"What happened to her?"
"M-Ms. Lambert tried to kill herself!"
A buzzing noise filled his head before everything in front of him went blank. He hung up and barreled down the stairs, nearly stumbling in his haste. He had lost Cecilia once in his past life. He wasn't going to lose her again.
Helena was still sulking on the couch. When she saw Sean rush out like a madman, her frown deepened. "Where are you running off to now? You just got home!"
Sean didn't even spare her a glance as he moved toward the door. "Cecilia tried to kill herself."
Helena froze.
Kill herself?
Before she could react, he was already out the door.
When she finally snapped back to her senses, she stomped her foot, panic surging.
She thought that situation was bad. Cecilia was nothing but trouble! Of all times to pull something like this, she picked now?
If Easton found out about Sean going to the rehabilitation center, they would be done for.
Easton would definitely exaggerate things to Arthur, claiming that Sean got all distracted by some woman and ignored his responsibilities.
And then? Arthur's impression of Sean would plummet even further.
The more she thought about it, the more frantic she became. Still wearing her loungewear, she grabbed her keys and rushed out.
By the time she reached the rehabilitation center, Cecilia had already been resuscitated.
Inside the room, Sean sat at Cecilia's bedside, gripping her hand tightly, his face full of anguish. "Cecilia, why would you do something so stupid?"
Cecilia lay there as white as a sheet, her wrist wrapped in thick gauze. She gave a weak shake of her head, tears uncontrollably sliding down her cheeks.
"Sean, I'm sorry… I didn't want to trouble you…
"I was… I was so scared…"
Sean looked at Helena's stubborn, hysterical face and felt nothing but exhaustion. "Mom, I told you already. She's the only woman I want.
"I don't want anyone else. If you keep pushing, I'll take Cecilia and leave Jynston. We won't ever come back."
Helena's vision went dark, and she swayed, barely catching herself.
She thought that Sean was an ungrateful son.
She clutched her chest, trembling with fury, words failing her.
At that moment, the door slowly opened from the outside.
A tall figure stepped in, their posture rigid.
It was none other than Easton. He'd had people stationed there from the beginning. The moment things went south, he knew.
He looked straight at Sean and said, "Come outside."
Then he turned and walked out without waiting for a response.
