Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 17

Still, Annie was surprised to learn that Sean actually took the initiative to apologize. She didn't dwell on it, though, since she was finally free from that nightmare.

When Annie came out of the room, breakfast was already set on the dining table.

Christian, dressed in casual loungewear, walked out of the kitchen carrying two cups of warm milk.

Annie glanced at the clock on the wall.

It was already 10:00 am. Why was he not at work?

Christian seemed to read her mind. He walked over and set the milk down by her hand.

"When my superior heard that my wife was sick, he approved my leave. He's very understanding toward me."

He spoke so naturally, one would think that he and Annie really were a loving couple.

Wife…That word made Annie's ears grow a little warm.

They were only married in name, so his commitment to his role left her feeling flustered.

She had just opened her mouth to say something when Christian handed her an envelope.

"It came this morning. It's yours."

Annie froze for a second before taking it.

She tore open the envelope and pulled out the sheets of paper inside.

At the top of the first page, the words "Offer Letter" stood out. It was from Mosaic Studio. They had accepted her application and asked her to report for onboarding in two days.

It was a newly established design studio, so it wasn't well-known, but this was an excellent opportunity for Annie at the moment.

Just then, a lively burst of chatter came from the entrance. A woman, flanked by a group of glamorous, well-to-do women, walked in.

Leading them was Helena Garcia, Sean's mother.

One eagle-eyed lady immediately spotted Annie sitting alone. She nudged Helena's arm and gestured in that direction.

"Hey, Helena, look. Isn't that Annie, the woman who almost became your daughter-in-law?"

The women exchanged a knowing look, their tones full of condescension.

"Oh? It really is her. Look, that woman was supposed to marry Helena's son."

The smile on Helena's face stiffened slightly. She followed their gaze and indeed saw Annie.

Why was Annie here?
