Once Sean disappeared into the elevator, the suffocating tension in the air collapsed at once.
Linda grabbed Annie by the wrist and pulled her straight into the director's office. After they were inside, she released her grip and wearily pinched her nose bridge.
Then, she let out a heavy sigh. "That was reckless, Annie. By agreeing to this, you're inviting trouble."
Annie knew Linda's concern was for her own good. The weight of that care warmed her heart.
Nevertheless, she shook her head. The look in her eyes was firm and resolute as she declared, "Thank you, Ms. Lopez, but I can't keep hiding."
She could avoid Sean that day, but not forever.
He was like a shark that had caught the scent of blood and would always find a way to come after her, as long as she was in Jynston.
Instead of waiting passively for his next move, she figured that it was better to take the initiative and nip all the danger in the bud.
Annie said, "Amy is pregnant, so I won't let her get dragged into my mess. Since Sean insists on coming for me, I'll face him head-on. Let's see what tricks he has up his sleeves."
Linda looked into her eyes and saw that familiar, unyielding fire burning. Again, she sighed and decided to let it go.
Once Annie made up her mind, there was no pulling her back or changing her thoughts.
Christian could shield her for a while, but not forever. In the end, she would eventually have to face Sean and stand up for herself.
Linda said, "Just make sure you know what you're doing."
She then took a new access card from the drawer of her desk and handed it over to Annie. "Be careful from now on. If anything happens, call me at once."
The hospital ward was so quiet that the rustle of wind through the leaves outside the window was audible.
Christian sat on the bed, gripping his phone, its screen dark. The air around him was terrifyingly oppressive.
As his fingers slowly tightened in a forceful grip, his veins bulged starkly against the back of his head.
He looked up at Michael, who had been standing quietly in the corner the entire time.
He instructed, "Since that's how it is, take care of Helena and Cecilia. Make sure Sean keeps his mouth shut in front of Ann."
Michael's expression was grave as he gave a slight nod. "Understood."
