Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 200

Business department?

Sean didn't know what Annie was thinking.

She had actually sent a man to have lunch with him.

People nearby kept sneaking glances at them.

This place was built for couples. Everywhere he looked, it was pairs leaning close, sharing plates, speaking in low voices.

Only their table stood out. Two unfamiliar men faced each other across a candlelit window seat, an atmosphere that felt out of place in the room.

The whispers carried just clearly enough.

"Look at that table. Are they together?"

The looks and murmurs made Sean's brows furrow. A surge of anger shot through him. He almost lost control and flipped the table.

He figured that Annie had to be doing this on purpose.

Under the table, Sean curled his hand into a fist, his veins bulging along his knuckles. He forced the anger down and reached for his phone.

He wanted to know exactly what Annie was up to.

He dialed a number, but no one picked up.

The call ended on its own.

Sean stared at the darkened screen, the air around him turning icy.

The chill coming off Sean made Oliver flinch, and his smile finally cracked. "Mr. Frost?"

Sean lifted his head, his eyes so dark that they looked vicious.

He didn't answer. He stood, grabbed his coat, and walked out without looking back.

Behind him, Oliver sat there in stunned silence.

...

At the same time, in a ward at Jynston General Hospital, Annie was setting food from her thermos onto the tray table.

She brought roasted ribs, buttered shrimp, and a warm bowl of mushroom soup.

Annie felt her heart soften, as if brushed by a feather. She lowered her head to hide the flush, but she couldn't stop the smile on her lips.

"If you like it, have some more."

Christian had already changed into his own clothes. His personal items were packed into a small travel bag, set neatly at the foot of the bed.

Seeing him ready to go, Annie nudged the tray a little closer. She said, "I'm going to take care of the discharge paperwork. You keep eating."

She turned to leave, but a firm grip closed around her wrist.

A second later, she was pulled back and folded into a warm, solid embrace.

He wrapped her in his arms from behind, his chin settling against her shoulder.

He deliberately softened his voice, feigning weakness. "I'm not steady on my feet. I'm still wiped out. Stay with me for a minute, Ann."

Annie went still, then let out a quiet breath that was somewhere between amusement and disbelief.

A second ago, he had looked perfectly fine. But now, he was acting as if he could barely stand.

She could feel the strength in his arms. There was nothing weak about it at all.
