In EVL's VIP reception room, Sean sat on the couch with impatience written all over his face, his fingers tapping restlessly against his knee.
The humiliation from noon yesterday had kept him awake all night. He was the CEO of Frost Group, yet he'd been stared at like a sideshow in a couples' restaurant.
In his mind, every bit of it was Annie's fault.
When Linda arrived after being notified, Sean went straight at her, his tone arrogant and accusatory. "I want to file a complaint against Annie. She skipped a meeting with the client for no reason, then sent some random person to brush me off. Is this EVL's idea of service?"
Linda folded her arms and looked at him coldly. "Mr. Frost, Oliver already explained it. Annie had an urgent matter come up.
"As for lunch, the company arranged for someone from the business team to attend in her place. That fully complies with our service standards."
She spoke in a flat, businesslike tone, the cold distance unmistakable.
"Or are you saying that you came to EVL expecting something else, that you needed a female designer to accompany you alone?"
She pinned him with that single question.
Sean had no way to retort. His face shifted between livid and pale, twisted with frustration.
Linda really was sharp-tongued.
Just then, the reception room door opened, and Annie walked in.
The moment she saw Sean, her brows knitted on instinct.
Linda immediately stepped forward, caught Annie by the wrist, and moved her behind her like a shield. "Annie, this isn't your problem. Go back out."
Seeing them so clearly united against him made Sean's temper spike. He was just about to explode when his phone started ringing nonstop.
He glanced at the caller ID. It was the vice president.
Sean drove back to Frost Group at breakneck speed.
The moment he walked into the office, the acting assistant hurried over, his face drained of color and his voice shaking.
"Mr. Frost, you're finally back! The shareholders are all in the conference room. They've been... They've been tearing each other apart."
Sean shoved past him and headed straight for the conference room.
The room was in total chaos.
Several major shareholders were shouting and slapping the table. As soon as Sean walked in, all eyes snapped to him.
"Sean, look at the mess you've made! You've only been in charge for a few days, and you've already wrecked everything!" An elderly shareholder with graying hair jabbed a finger at him, shaking with rage.
"If Easton were still here, none of this would have happened! He may have been ruthless, but he never let the company fall into this kind of trouble!"
