Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 39

Annie hesitated for a moment, as if making a difficult decision. She bit her lip, then finally pulled out her phone and tapped on a photo.

"Dr. Lawson, could I bother you with one more thing?"

William had been ready to say, "Spit it out so I can go catch up on sleep," but had to swallow the words on his tongue after seeing the troubled look in her eyes.

He impatiently ran a hand through his hair. "Say it."

"Please take a look at this prescription."

She handed him the phone. A clearly photographed medical prescription was displayed on the screen—one she'd once naively believed was proof of how hard Sean had worked to save Irene.

William lazily took the phone and glanced at it. In the next second, all traces of nonchalance vanished from his face.

"Fuck!"

He nearly crushed the phone in his hand. What trashy prescription was this?

The prescription showed a few basic medications meant to maintain a resting heart rate, paired with high doses of vitamins and nutritional supplements.

For a healthy person, it might be an overpriced wellness package. But for a patient with severe heart failure, this was murder disguised as treatment.

Its sole purpose was to create the illusion that the patient's condition was stable through medication. The doctor who'd issued the prescription was playing with a patient's life!

William's temples throbbed with fury. He sharply looked up and glared at Annie.

"Which third-rate quack came up with this crap? Wait, scratch that. Even a fresh intern who's recently graduated wouldn't write such a criminally negligent prescription!

"This isn't treatment. It's the gentlest, slowest way of pushing a patient toward death!"

An icy hatred settled in her eyes as she clenched her fists.

"Sean and Cecilia… I'll reclaim everything you owe me—my child, and my grandma—a hundredfold!"

By early morning, Irene was wheeled into the operating room.

Annie sat on the bench outside, wringing her fingers together so tightly that her knuckles paled. She'd pinned all her hope on a man she'd only met once, so was it the right choice?

After what felt like an eternity, the tightly shut doors finally slid open with a soft chime. The red lights above the operating room switched to green.

Annie shot up from her seat and could feel her heart hammering violently in her chest.
