Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 46

Christian got up and walked into the bedroom. A moment later, he came out holding a dark blue velvet box. He set it in front of her.

Annie stared at the box, unsure what to do.

"What's this?" She instinctively wanted to refuse. They were only married on paper and could very well divorce in a while. How could she accept something so expensive?

However, Christian didn't give Annie the chance to reject. He simply pushed the box into her hands. His fingertips were cool when they brushed her skin, then quickly pulled away. "It's a gift from my business trip."

Annie froze. He still remembered to bring her something even though he was busy. That feeling of being thought of was warm, unfamiliar, and overwhelming. It left her a little stunned.

She opened the box. Inside lay a platinum necklace, the pendant a small diamond, simple in design yet dazzling.

"I'll put it on for you." Christian's voice came from behind her as he stepped closer. He leaned in and lifted the necklace. The cold chain skimmed across her neck, sending a faint shiver up her spine.

"Alright."

He took a step back. "It looks good on you."

Annie lifted her hand, fingertips brushing the tiny diamond resting on her chest. Then she walked to the mirror by the entryway.

The thin chain framed her collarbones beautifully, and the diamond sparkled. She truly loved it.

Turning back to him, her eyes sparkled. "Grandma's been pushing us to start planning the wedding. When… when are you free?"

Christian's expression froze the instant she said it. He looked at her, something dark and unreadable stirring in his eyes.

It took a long moment before he finally spoke, voice rough. "Ann, if you still care about that man, we don't have to rush the wedding."

Annie's smile stiffened. She didn't understand what he meant.

She refused to repeat the mistakes she had made in her past life, where she had handed all her emotions to a man and let him dictate her world. Whether it was love or her career, she needed to hold the reins this time.

After finishing breakfast, Annie headed to Mosaic Studio. Rain poured outside, dark and heavy, pulling her mood down with the weather.

She had barely sat at her desk when Roxanne stepped out of her office. "Annie, come to my office for a moment."

Roxanne's expression looked complicated.

Annie followed her inside. "Ms. Hudson, what is it?"

Roxanne poured Annie a glass of water, hesitating before she spoke. "Well, the studio just took on a new project. We need someone to visit a rural town and gather references, like traditional clothing elements and things like that.

"And I want you to go."
