Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 50

Suzanna had been standing at the door for ages with no response from inside. She wondered if Christian and Annie were home yet.

She frowned and reached for the doorbell again when the lock finally clicked.

The door opened to reveal Christian's face, which was as dark as the bottom of a burnt pot.

She jumped at the sight, then felt irritation rise immediately. "Uncle Chris, why didn't you open the door? I thought something happened to you two!"

She complained as she craned her neck to look inside. "Where's Ann? How is she? Is she hurt?"

Christian stepped aside to let her in, the cold air still clinging to him. Every time he closed his eyes, he would see the landslide swallowing Annie whole. The fear hadn't faded at all.

"She's fine. She's just showering," he said, his voice still raspy.

"That's good to hear." Suzanna let out a long breath, patting her chest. That day's events had almost scared her half to death.

She plopped onto the couch, then suddenly remembered Annie's unfinished sentence over the phone. The latter had been saying something about Christian acting strangely this morning.

The running water behind the bathroom door muffled their voices enough. She leaned toward him and lowered her voice, her face lighting up at the thought of gossip. "Uncle Chris, what did you do to upset Ann this morning?"

Christian didn't answer. He walked to the counter, poured himself a glass of water, and drank in silence.

That silence set off every alarm bell in Suzanna's mind. Men changed after getting married. Was Christian another stereotype fulfilled?

"Did you…"

Christian fell silent again. He didn't want Annie to think that he didn't trust her. More importantly, he didn't want her to know that he had followed her.

"It's getting late. You should go home," he said, dismissing her.

"What? I—" Before Suzanna could finish speaking, Christian had already ushered her out and shut the door in her face with a firm click of the lock.

She stared at the closed door, speechless. She couldn't believe this man. He had managed to get married thanks to her, and now, he couldn't even appreciate her. It was unbelievable.

Leaning against the hallway wall, she pulled out her phone and opened her chat log with Annie. If Christian couldn't swallow his pride, then she would just have to help him.

Helping someone meant seeing the matter through! Suzanna's fingers flew across the screen, typing out a long message before she hit the button to send it.
