Annie turned around and met Cecilia's gaze. She finally understood why the look in Roxanne's eyes was so complicated when she saw her.
Frost Group was Mosaic Studio's investor. No matter how much Roxanne admired Annie, she couldn't afford to offend Frost Group simply because of her.
Annie stood and walked straight to the director's office at the end of the hallway. Inside the office, Roxanne was standing by the window with a cup of coffee.
From the back, she looked tired. When she saw Annie, a complicated expression flashed across her face. "Take a seat, Annie."
Annie didn't move. Standing in front of Roxanne's desk, Annie stared at her.
Roxanne knew that she owed Annie an explanation. However, if some words were said aloud, it would be impossible to fix their relationship.
In the end, Roxanne sighed. "I'm sorry. Frost Group used its position as the studio's investor to pressure us.
"I… I had no choice. You're still young, Annie. There's still a long road ahead of you.
"Give up on this project for now. Just think of it as… as you lying low for now. If the studio gets a better opportunity in the future, I promise I'll give it to you first."
Roxanne couldn't help but feel guilty when she said that. By sacrificing Annie, she could protect the studio and have Frost Group owe her a favor.
As a businesswoman, Roxanne had thought everything through. However, now that she was facing Annie, what remained of her conscience ached.
Annie laughed. "Why? I won this project from the design contest fair and square.
"Why do I have to give it up and let it go to a plagiarizing thief? Ms. Hudson, is that the so-called talent that you admire?"
Roxanne's face paled. Suddenly, the door slammed open.
A group of designers stood at the doorway. They looked at Annie, their expressions angry.
She swept her gaze across everyone present and continued, "I resign."
Cecilia, who had been watching the entire show while leaning against the door, finally strutted into the room. She covered her mouth and exclaimed with mock surprise. "Annie, why are you throwing a tantrum like a child again? Is threatening us with your resignation all you know?"
Cecilia walked to Annie's side. "Now that Frost Group has blacklisted you, I wonder which company in Jynston would dare take you in after you leave this studio."
Roxanne also frowned. She only thought that Annie was being impulsive and immature.
"Don't be rash, Annie. You'll be out of a job if you leave our studio.
"Please think this through." She still tried to advise her.
Suddenly, a sharp, feminine voice from the doorway interrupted Roxanne. "Who said that Ms. Steward would be out of a job?"
