Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 73

"Here's the situation. We had another internal discussion about Maeve's dress design project," Amelia said.

Cecilia's heart instantly shot up to her throat.

"After careful consideration, we feel that EVL's design proposal better fits our needs. We're very sorry, but we will have to cancel this collaboration. The project has been fully handed over to Ms. Steward from EVL."

Annie! It was her again!

Yesterday, Cecilia had strutted before her, flaunting her victory with pride. Yet, barely 24 hours later, she was slapped in the face this cleanly and brutally.

At that moment, Cecilia's mind buzzed loudly, almost going blank. She gripped her phone tightly, refusing to accept it.

"Why?" she asked.

She continued, "Ms. Brown, we've already signed the contract! Yesterday, you even said that you admired my—"

"In business, changes are inevitable," Amelia cut her off, her voice slightly impatient as she did so. "We'll pay the contract's penalty as stated. That's all. We'll work together again should the chance arise."

The call ended abruptly, leaving only the cold, businesslike tone in Cecilia's ear. She stood frozen, phone in hand.

She had schemed and humbled herself. She had worked very hard to snatch the project from Annie, only for it to be taken back so effortlessly.

Cecilia could almost picture Annie's smug expression now, and the mocking looks from everyone in the studio.

Why was Annie always so lucky? Why was she destined to be crushed under her heel? The injustice of it all burned inside her.

A surge of blood rushed to Cecilia's head. Then, her vision went dark, and the entire world began to spin.

She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. All she felt was a sharp, tearing pain ripping through her chest.

The phone slipped from her limp hand and hit the floor with a thud.

He rushed to the emergency room entrance. Staring at the tightly shut door and the glowing red light, his chest tightened like a vice, and each breath was a ragged stab.

How could this happen out of nowhere?

Cecilia's health had always been fragile, and Sean knew that better than anyone.

Too terrified to let his thoughts wander, he could only fix his eyes on the door, as if trying to stare a hole through it.

Finally, with a soft ding, the red light above the emergency room turned off.

The door opened from the inside, and a doctor in a white coat stepped out. He removed his surgical mask, revealing a tired and solemn face. It was Sean's colleague, Rowan Kingsley.

Sean lunged forward. He grabbed Rowan's arm, his voice trembling uncontrollably as he asked, "How is she? What happened to her?"
