Reborn to Marry My Best Friend's Uncle novel Chapter 9

Sean shot them a cold glare, his tone sharp as he spoke. "I'm her attending physician. My duty is to protect my patient from any harm. If all of you don't leave right now, I'm calling security."

The people around shivered under his icy stare. They exchanged uneasy glances before muttering curses as they slowly dispersed.

"He thinks he's so great."

"Seeing how protective he is, I bet the news is true. There's no smoke without fire, after all!"

The hallway was peaceful again at last.

Standing by the door, Sean listened to their voices fade into the distance, his face dark as night.

He pushed the door open, approached the bedside, and said in a soft voice, "Cecilia, it's okay now. Don't be afraid."

The covers were then slowly lifted.

Sean tenderly wiped away Cecilia's tears.

She looked up, her red eyes full of hurt.

She spoke in a trembling voice, "Sean, why did they say those things about me? Do I… deserve to die?"

Sean's heart ached. He looked at her vulnerable, helpless expression, then remembered Annie's icy, hostile face. Anger flared up inside him once more.

He believed that Cecilia was kind and did nothing wrong, yet she had to endure baseless accusations and insults, all because of Annie's reckless and selfish behavior.

He comforted her in a gentle voice. "Don't say that. I'm here, and I won't let anything happen to you."

Sean held her hand, his expression growing serious.

"The hospital has suspended me. I'll find another capable doctor to take over your care. You just focus on resting and recovering."

Cecilia's face instantly drained of color when he said that.

Sean was being suspended? That wouldn't do!

Cecilia began to panic.

She didn't trust any other doctor. Apart from Sean, who in the world would risk everything to keep her alive?

Without him, would that so-called volunteer from a neighboring city even donate?

Cecilia grabbed Sean's wrist with astonishing strength, her eyes wide with terror.

Even Sean had been suspended because of her. Who would dare want anything to do with her now?

"Ms. Lambert, you're still very weak. It's not safe to go outside, and if anything happens, we'll be held responsible."

Besides, going out now might draw even more unwanted attention.

Cecilia seemed oblivious to the hesitation in Clara's voice. She pulled a bank card from under her pillow and discreetly handed it to her.

"There's a hundred thousand dollars in this. It's money Sean gave me to spend. Please, I promise it'll only be for a little while. I won't cause any trouble."

Clara's fingers trembled as she held the card.

She would have to scrimp and save for more than a year to have this amount of money.

Everyone had their price.

Hesitation in her eyes quickly gave way to greed. She stuffed the card into her pocket and nodded.

"Alright… Just for a little while. But you mustn't wander off."
