Reborn To Stay Away From Him novel Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Jesslyn wiped away Josephine’s tears, then suddenly broke into a smile.

“Mom, are you really not considering that handsome dad downstairs? I think he really likes you!”

Josephine froze for a moment, her face instantly flushing bright red.

“You’re just a kid. What do you know about liking someone?”

“I do know!”

Jesslyn sat up, putting on a grown–up air as she recounted to Josephine everything that had happened since they came to Canada.

“When we first arrived, Kolton was obviously watching your mood every day. Whatever you looked at for even a second longer, he’d buy it right away! And that restaurant you said was good–didn’t you notice we’ve been there several times just this month?”

Those involved are confused; onlookers see clearly,

How had Josephine never noticed that Kolton was being so obvious— obvious enough that even Jesslyn had picked up on it?

During this time, all her attention had been on Jesslyn, and she had never truly considered the possibility of being with him.

The next morning, as soon as Josephine went downstairs, she saw

Kolton sitting at the dining table reading the newspaper, while Jesslyn sat there too, swinging her little legs and waiting for breakfast.

For a moment, Josephine felt dazed.

Wasn’t this the kind of life she had longed for—a family of three?

Not chaos faced by her alone, not endless rushing about all by herself.

“I overslept. You two could have started without me.”

Josephine pulled out a chair and sat down.

Jesslyn beside her raised her spoon. “Kolton says a family has to be all together before we can start eating.”

Kolton tapped her lightly on the head.

“Next time, secretly call me Dad, and I’ll let you eat first.”

Josephine had just taken a sip of water when she choked. “What nonsense are you talking about? What are you teaching Jesslyn every day?”

Kolton smiled, took out a velvet ring box from under the table, and pushed it toward her.

“A client gave it to me during a business deal. You can just keep it.”

“This counts as our family portrait.”

On the way back, Jesslyn was so tired that she fell asleep sprawled on Kolton’s back.

He held Jesslyn with one arm, while his other hand tightly clasped Josephine’s.

“Am I despicable, barging into your life when you needed someone the most, and shamelessly hoping you’d fall in love with me?”

Josephine was stunned for a brief moment.

Kolton looked ahead and gave a self–mocking smile. “I know I’m despicable, but I don’t want to give up this chance. Josie, do you know? I’ve tried to forget you too. I tried to start a relationship of my own.”

“But I couldn’t do it. I’ve seen the brightest wind at the shooting range, and after that, there was no room in my eyes for anyone else.”

“I hope I can take care of you and your daughter for a lifetime.”

Josephine lowered her gaze, her thoughts in complete turmoil.

Just as she was about to speak, she caught sight of a figure standing in the darkness out of the corner of her eye.

The figure moved slightly, inch by inch stepping into the light of the streetlamp.

“Josie, long time no see.”
