Chapter 23
The next day, Josephine saw many packages at her doorstep.
Inside were a dress and a vinyl record of her favorite Beethoven piano piece.
It was from Edmund.
Only he knew that she also loved Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and had even choreographed a dance to it.
The dress was also in goose–yellow, her favorite color back when she was still in her home country.
But it was too late; people do not stay the same forever.
Just like these things, Josephine no longer cherished them.
Just like Edmund, she no longer loved him either.
She tossed the packages straight into the trash and went back to her room.
From that day on, she received all kinds of gifts from Edmund every single day.
From expensive jewelry to the snacks she liked to cat.
Josephine still threw everything into the trash without even looking.
Edmund could not wait any longer and directly stopped Josephine on her way to pick up Jesslyn.
“Josie, you can’t treat me like this.”
“Can you at least give me a chance so we can talk properly? Please?”
Josephine looked at Edmund’s frail body and frowned.
He had been a soldier for years; it was impossible for him to become this thin because of her.
Seeing the confusion in her eyes, Edmund lowered his head with a trace of apology. “I… I was diagnosed with a rare blood disease before and urgently needed bone marrow from a close relative.”
“So what? Did you come here to ask Jessie to save you? I’m telling you, that’s impossible.”
Edmund shook his head.
“My father donated his bone marrow to me, Josie. How could I possibly ask Jesslyn to donate hers? I just want to talk to you properly. Is that okay?”
Josephine really could not understand it; hadn’t Edmund loved Diana to the point of madness?
Now, who was he putting on this repentant, prodigal–son act for?
Even if he turned back, there was no reason for her to stand still and wait for him.
“No, I can’t. I still need to pick up my daughter.”
