Christopher sat right next to her and noticed that she seemed to be taking notes of what was shared on stage during the press conference.
"Can you understand what's going on?" he asked.
Amelia furrowed her brows and turned her notebook away from him, not letting him look at her notes.
"She's just recording notes for Mr. Langley," Nicole said with a smile.
How could an undergraduate understand all these? She was just copying everything verbatim without any personal input.
Christopher saw how evasive Amelia was being and smiled without a word.
Onstage, Caleb noticed Christopher talking to Amelia and Amelia turning around, ignoring him.
His eyes dimmed.
She was being so unfriendly to Christopher.
After the presentation on the materials was over, Amelia turned around and realized that Christopher and Nicole had already left.
It was crowded and stuffy in the press conference venue.
Amelia headed to the corridor outside for some fresh air. The moment she arrived at the corridor, she saw Christopher leaning against the railing, puffing on a cigarette.
Amelia seldom saw him smoke.
He seldom smoked in front of her when they were married.
Christopher saw Amelia walking out into the corridor at the same time she saw him.
His eyes were cold and distant as usual. He shifted his gaze away and continued puffing on his cigarette, with no intention of acknowledging her presence at all.
Amelia took a deep breath.
When they were at their marital home last night, she had wanted to talk about their divorce proceedings.
Unfortunately, things were rather awkward at that time.
She approached Christopher.
Christopher put out his cigarette when he saw her walking toward him. He flicked the ash away from his sleeve. "What's up?"
"Well," Amelia said. "Let's talk about us."
"In the washroom."
Christopher immediately made his way to the washroom.
Amelia opened her mouth to say something, but Christopher was already gone.
He didn't care at all about her unspoken words. A mere stomachache was enough to send him hurtling toward Nicole.
Conversely, when she had to drink to entertain clients with him, she ended up with gastric bleeding and had to be hospitalized for a week. Even then, he never visited her once.
He didn't even call her to show an ounce of concern for her.
Amelia retracted her gaze and smiled self-derisively.
So be it.
There were only five days left. All these would eventually be dealt with.
There was no need for her to rush things.
Since they had bumped into each other, she wanted to take the chance to know his stance on the matter. If they could go straight to the clerk's office, it would only be for the better.
